The Young, Hardworking, and Inspiring Fathers of Savoy Hotel Manila: Celebrating Fatherhood, Resilience, and Dreams Fulfilled - Tara Lets Anywhere

At Savoy Hotel Manila, fatherhood comes in many forms—but always with unwavering dedication, strength, and love. This Father’s Day, we turn the spotlight on three remarkable young dads from our team whose stories remind us that behind every hardworking employee is a powerful “why”: their families. ContentsEngr. James LunaBryan SolisMoshe PonferradaCelebrate the Real Superheroes This Father’s Day at Savoy Hotel Manila Engr. James Luna Assistant Manager, Engineering Department | Father at 19 For James, fatherhood began early—at just 19 years old. Today, his two boys, now aged 7 and 8, are his life’s greatest motivation. “They’re my reason for everything,” he shares. “I even turned down a job abroad because I couldn’t bear to be away from them.” James has been with Savoy Hotel Manila for nearly seven years, and the stability it has provided enabled him to accomplish what once seemed impossible: earn his Master Electrician certification, purchase a family home in Cavite, buy a small coconut farm in Quezon with livestock, and fully support his wife’s education and his children’s schooling. His days are long—often arriving home at 11 PM—but he makes it a point to wake up early to prepare his kids for school. “Taking them to school brings me joy,” he says. “I just want them to enjoy being kids.” Though his wife is currently studying in the province, James manages both work and fatherhood with resilience. “When my kids are sick and there’s no one to watch over them, I’m thankful my team supports me and I can take emergency leaves.” His dream? To see his kids graduate from college and find happiness in their chosen paths. Bryan Solis Assistant Manager, Food & Beverage Department | Father at 19 Bryan also became a father at 19—while still in college. With the help of supportive families, he and his partner pushed through the challenges of young parenthood. He graduated, started working, and now, more than two decades later, is a proud father to a 21-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter. “Savoy Hotel Manila has been more than a workplace. The mentorship I received helped me grow,” Bryan shares. “Having two days off means a lot—I use it to bond with my kids.” At home, Bryan is a hands-on dad—checking homework, helping with chores, and even preparing dinner. “Seeing them grow into responsible, kind individuals is the most rewarding part.” Instead of seeking opportunities abroad, he chose to stay close, believing that being present for his children’s growth is priceless. His way of unwinding? Movie nights with the family, short motorbike rides, exploring the country side and discovering new places together. Moshe Ponferrada Duty Manager, Front Office Department | Father at 29 Moshe became a dad at 29 and is grateful to be part of a close-knit, supportive family. For him, fatherhood is all about presence and shared moments. “I work the morning shift and get home by 6 PM so I can have dinner with my family, play with my daughter, and read her bedtime stories.” His daughter, now four, is his source of daily inspiration. “She’s sweet and expressive. When she’s happy, I’m happy,” he says with a smile. Although time can be a challenge due to work demands, his days off are sacred. “We eat out, swim, or just have coffee and talk—simple joys that mean everything.” Living independently, Moshe and his partner in life balance their resources carefully, planning their work schedules around their daughter’s needs. His goal? To give her the best education and a joyful, stable life. Ah, the City of Pines. It’s the ultimate summer escape of city dwellers, with its cool weather, scenic pine trees, and nature parks perfect for a relaxing nature trip. Nowadays, there’s lots of hotels and accommodations in Baguio, but we’re here to narrow your choice down a little bit. Azalea Hotels and Residences Baguio is a holiday haven perfect for every traveler: from couples to groups of companions and friends to families who want a wholesome vacation. Its prime location on Leonard Wood Loop ensures easy access to the top attractions in Baguio City, including SM Baguio, Burnham Park, Baguio Botanical Garden, and more. Here you can choose your own accommodation depending on your budget and needs, ranging from a Superior Room or Premier Room w/ View (good for 3 people) to 2- and 3-Bedrooms (good for 6 and 8 people, respectively). Staying in Baguio. I was invited to Azalea Hotels and Residences Baguio for a 2-night stay with tour. We stayed in a Premier Room with view, which comes with two beds (a double-sized bed and a queen-sized bed) and a sofa bed, a kitchen with cookware and dinnerware, a bathroom with hot & cold shower, and a front balcony view. It was very comfortable, and I love the balcony where you can see the light blooming in the sunrise and the fog covering the mountains in the late afternoon. Since it was summer and there is no airconditioning (as in most hotels in Baguio), it can get hot, so having a balcony to let the air in is a big plus. I also liked the staff service – always warm, prompt, and helpful. We were greeted with a basket of fruits, pastries, and strawberry wine and then left with a plate of sweets and tarts afterwards. I can see how this is such a good choice for couples! Take a tour in/near Baguio City Azalea Hotels and Residences Baguio can help you arrange tours in Baguio, including joiner tours or an exclusive tour for your group. As most people who explore Baguio go the DIY route, this is a good alternative especially for travelers who prefer ease and convenience. As part of our tour, we visited new (and classic) tourist spots in Baguio, which you can also explore. These are: Mt. Camisong Forest and Events Park Tucked away in Itogon, Benguet, about 20 minutes away from Baguio City, Mt. Camisong Forest and Events Park is a fresh eco-tourism spot that opened this February 2025. Take amazing photos at the Alapaap glass view deck, explore forest trails like the Alpas, or just enjoy the view of mountains and forests in Benguet. Aside from these, foodies can also dig into local dishes and brews at the park’s café. Although some parts of Mt. Camisong is still under construction, we enjoyed visiting this park. It is well designed, the views are amazing, and the bathrooms have high-tech Japanese toilet too! Ambuklao Dam Located in Bokod, Benguet, a scenic 30-minute drive from Baguio is Ambuklao Dam, once considered the largest dam in East Asia. It powers the neighborhoods in Baguio City. Take a short visit to see the historical dam and enjoy the sight of the trainquil waters and small boats manned by local fishers. Via Von Joy Cafe and Resto After exploring Mt. Camisong and Ambuklao Dam, have a savory lunch at Via Von Joy Café and Resto. This 2-story casual restaurant is popular for its surrounding mountain views, as well as its laid-back vibes and local dishes. They also sell various pasalubong, including smoked meats. For people who love IG-worthy snaps like me, it’s really a must-visit in your Baguio-Benguet itinerary. Dragon Treasure Castle Dragon Treasure Castle is one of the “trending” new attractions in Baguio. It is known for its castle-like architecture. This spot is still under construction, and according to staff, it will take about 2 years for its completion including the making of the actual dragon statues. Currently, details are scarce, but it’s still popular as it is inexpensive and close to other main attractions in Baguio. Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park Located on Mirador Hill in Baguio, Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park is a great place to visit for nature lovers. It features short trails, zen gardens, and the iconic Bamboo Eco-Park and torii gates, all set against sweeping Cordillera views. Where to eat Azalea Hotel has a dining restaurant and lounge. If you want to explore other dining options, there are nearby restaurants and cafes you can visit as well. Kuya J Yes, Azalea Hotels and Residences Baguio’s in-house dining is Kuya J. So you’re guaranteed to have amazing breakfast buffets daily! I honestly love the food here, and their hot chocolate is on point too. I love hot chocolate and quite pihikan when it comes to it, so the fact that I love their hot chocolate says something. Of course, you can also order ala carte and enjoy local favorites like lumpiang shanghai, fried chicken, chop suey, and more. Plus their famous halo-halo. Oh Mai Khan Located on Upper Session Road, Oh Mai Khan is a Baguio classic famous for their eat-all-you-can Mongolian bowls. Here you can pile your own bowl with rice or noodles, fresh veggies, meats, and sauces after which the staff will cook it for you. Tip: If it’s your first time to have a Mongolian bowl, just ask the staff to use their standard sauce because it can really make or break the dish. I loved the bowl prepared for me. It was so good! Cornelia Street For fans of Taylor Swift and all things cute, Cornelia Street is a charming dining spot perfect for couples, groups catching up over good food, and families enjoying generous portions. They have an extensive menu, including pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and rice meals. Book your stay at Azalea What can I say? Weekend well spent at Azalea Hotels and Residences Baguio! 7-Eleven Branch in Albay Boasts a Breathtaking Backdrop of the Iconic Mayon Volcano, Becomes a Must-Visit Spot - Tara Lets Anywhere

As the go-to spot for quick bites, cool drinks, and everyday essentials, 7-Eleven has long been a part of the Filipino routine. This paboritong kapitbahay is always nearby and ready to serve the whole community 24/7. But one recently opened branch takes its mission of bringing an elevated customer experience to new heights, literally. Located in Albay, Bicol, this humble convenience store is set against a breathtaking view of the iconic Mayon, remarkably becoming the newest tourist attraction in the area and capturing the volcano’s majestic form in every frame. Known for its near-perfect symmetry, Mayon Volcano is one of the Philippines’ most legendary natural wonders, attracting up to half a million tourists yearly. Whether it’s for the scenic beauty or the stories, visitors are drawn to Albay’s landscape—and now, to this viral 7-Eleven.  The store is located in a well-travelled route beside a gas station in Salugan, Camalig, Albay, and is now a recommended pit stop on the way to top tourist attractions like the Cagsawa Ruins, Legazpi Boulevard, and various Mayon viewing decks. Most locals are already flocking to this branch to experience the novelty of enjoying the convenience giant’s offerings and snapping postcard-like photos of the world-famous volcano. So, for out-of-town visitors out there, this 7-Eleven is another must-visit spot to add to that itinerary for a truly memorable and Instagrammable Bicol experience. “Part of 7-Eleven’s expansion outside of Metro Manila is also to encourage and support Philippine tourism,” said Valerie Gayle Uy, 7-Eleven’s Marketing Communications Division Head. “Our brand is also built on bringing every Filipino convenience that extends to their travels, and now having Mayon’s majestic view in the background just sealed the deal.” Of course, a view as beautiful as the Mayon deserves an equally satisfying cup to take in the scenery, so don’t forget to grab a City Cafe drink while visiting. This well-loved 7-Eleven product is made with 100% Arabica beans and comes in a variety of flavors, available hot or iced—including Brewed Coffee, French Vanilla, and Mochaccino, starting at P35. For an extra boost, Caramel and Hazelnut flavored syrups can be added for only P10. And for non-coffee lovers, there’s also a warm and indulgent cup of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate. Inside, customers can also find exactly what makes 7-Eleven a convenience favorite—filling and satisfying bites such as 7-Fresh Siopao, Big Bite Hot Dog, GULP, and other 7-Eleven rice meals, snacks, travel essentials, pantry goods, and more. More offerings will be coming soon, such as the beloved Crunch Time, and even local delicacy-inspired meals. “To all our kapitbahays and tourists, local and foreign, thank you for continuing to support 7-Eleven. As you enjoy sipping your City Cafe coffee with your favorite 7-Eleven meals and snacks, we hope you also take the time to step back and take in the beauty of Mayon, and all that Bicol has to offer!” Valerie shared.  While the viral attention is new, 7-Eleven has long been a familiar, reliable source of convenience for Filipinos. Whether seeking picturesque scenery or a quick stop for necessities, 7-Eleven Albay welcomes everyone to enjoy its offerings and services with a bonus front-row view of the Mayon Volcano. Flavors of Pistang Pinoy at Savoy Hotel Manila - Tara Lets Anywhere

Local fiestas are deeply ingrained to our culture as Filipinos. These events are a way for us to bond and share good times, pay respect to our beliefs, and of course enjoy good food! This month of May a.k.a. Fiesta Month, Savoy Hotel Manila brings the diverse flavors of Pistang Pinoy at Savoy Café, their in-house restaurant, with each dish representing a local fiesta in the Philippines. These Pistang Pinoy dishes are presented by the hotel’s executive Christian “Kit” Carpio. From appetizers to finger-licking desserts, here are the regional dishes that you could try: ContentsPistang Pinoy delicaciesSoupAppetizersMain CourseDessertEnjoy these Pistang Pinoy dishes Pistang Pinoy delicacies Soup Start your course with chicken binakol, a warm and filling soup typically served after fiesta activities, particularly during Ati-Atihan Festival in Aklan. This chicken soup is prepared with coconut water, coconut meat, and lemongrass. Personally, I find this really good – even good enough for a main course. Appetizers A plate of Balaw-Balaw, Mustasa Gulay atbp (Higantes Festival in Rizal) and sinuglaw (Kadayawan Festival in Mindanao) makes for a perfect appetizer for your group! We loved eating this set, since you can prepare it similar to samgyup. Use the mustasa leaves to as wrap to the rice and grilled pork and enjoy! Ilocos Empanatidas (Tan-Ok Festival) are delicious bite-sized pastries. It’s a famous delicacy in the Ilocos Region, as well as a favorite snack during fiestas. Savoy’s empanatidas are stuffed with garlicky longganisa, egg, and vegetables. The wrap is more bread-like, similar to traditional empanadas, rather than crispy like the ones sold in Ilocos. I honestly prefer this version, since I find the ingredients blend well better. And of course, you need to dip it in flavorful suka for best results. Lastly, have a bite of Lucban Longganisa (Pahiyas Festival), known for their iconic and garlicky flavor. Main Course Many people would say that a Pistang Pinoy isn’t complete without lechon! Savoy offers Cebu Lechon Belly (Sinulog Festival) for fans of this crispy, flavorful dish. It is marinated in herbs and spices before being slow-roasted, and then served with vinegar. If you’re feeling adventurous and want  to try out something new, try Karne Frita (Dinagyang Festival), which is made of tender beef slices in a soy-vinegar sauce. You’ll find it similar to bistek tagalong, although less sweet. For those who love seafood, Inihaw na Tuna Belly (GenSan Tuna Festival) won’t disappoint. Fresh tuna are marinated in calamansi, garlic, and spices and then chargrilled and then served with a soy sauce dip. I really enjoyed their inihaw na tuna belly. When you’re in a fiesta stuffing yourself with food, it’s nice to have a healthy, not-so-filling option as well. Other main course dishes you could try are Chicken Pastil (Zamboanga Hermosa Festival), Aligue Bringhe (Sinukwan Festival), and Lumpiang Sariwa (Singkaban Festival). Dessert The fun doesn’t end here! Once you’ve had your fill of rice and viands, it’s time to dive into the Filipino dessert table. Enjoy the Suman sa Ibus at Manggang Hinog, which pays tribute to the SuMaKah Festival in Antipolo but is known by most of us Filipinos. Simple and delicious, this pair is very reminiscent of snacks we eat in the morning or late afternoons. Another beloved dessert is Ube Halaya, which represents Panagbenga Festival in Baguio, a city known for their delicious, creamy ube halaya. For kids and adults alike, their Crema de Fruta, which is made with layers of sponge cake, custard, and fresh fruits in jelly, will prove to be a delight. Of course, every Filipino celebration has a spot in the table reserved for Leche Flan. I love Savoy’s version of leche flan because it isn’t overly sweet, so even those who don’t have a sweet tooth will be able to enjoy it as well. Enjoy these Pistang Pinoy dishes One thing that I like about staying at Savoy Hotel Manila is their commitment to promoting our local culture. From their Filipino brand of hospitality to their use of local ingredients (such as sampaguita) in their dishes and their events promoting local delicacies, this is a hotel that is truly proud to be Filipino. These Pistang Pinoy dishes are served at Savoy Café in Savoy Hotel Manila as part of their buffet offerings and ala carte menu, from May 1-31, 2025. Here are the schedules of their buffets: What is your favorite fiesta food? Let us know in the comments section below! Eco-chic at Savoy Hotel Manila: From Rooftop Gardens to Reduce-Waste Goals - Tara Lets Anywhere

Savoy Hotel Manila is most often known as the leading airport hotel in Manila, but did you know that it is also a model for sustainable practices? If you are an eco-conscious traveler, this is a great hotel choice that is close to the airport and other spots in the metro. At the time of this writing, we’d already been to Savoy Hotel Manila a few times (check out our staycation here). In our most recent visit, Marketing & Communications Director Ms. Thessa dela Paz and General Manager Den Navarro toured our media group around the hotel to learn more about their sustainability initiatives. In fact, the hotel has earned several recognitions, including a Badge of Honor from the United Nations Environment Programme for their WeSave Sustainability Program in 2022. Eco-conscious travelers will love these features of Savoy Hotel Manila: Contents1. Eco-Friendly Room Amenities2. Rooftop and Vertical Gardens3. Promoting Sampaguita—Philippine’s National Flower4. Other Hotel Initiatives5. Worldwide RecognitionsSustainable stays at Savoy Hotel Manila 1. Eco-Friendly Room Amenities As a guest, you’ll see for yourself how the hotel takes various measures to reduce waste and conserve resources—from their use of refillable toiletry dispensers to their choice of eco-friendly toothbrushes. They also encourage guests to reuse linens and towels to reduce water and energy consumption. Moreover, the hotel has upcycling and recycling initiatives. Used bar soaps are given away for recycling to local communities. Old linens are given away to Nagkakaisang Mamayan ng Legarda, which upcycles them into other usable products. Even excess food is given away to the Scholars of Sustenance Foundation, where it is distributed to impoverished individuals. 2. Rooftop and Vertical Gardens Savoy Hotel Manila also promotes urban green spaces with their rooftop and vertical gardens, which houses various edible plants used in their kitchens. As a hotel guest, you’ll easily find the vertical garden at the poolside, a refreshing sight to see as you’re lounging in one of the sun beds, cooling off at the pool, or enjoying cocktails during the poolside café’s unlimited BBQ night. The rooftop garden is not accessible to guests, but here the hotel practices sustainable hybrid farming where they grow various plants and herbs, including lettuce, eggplant, cucumber, tomatoes, pepper, and more. The garden uses recycled laundry containers from their housekeeping department, especially designed with a water catch system, and uses compost from the hotel waste. 3. Promoting Sampaguita—Philippine’s National Flower The delicate white sampaguita flowers are a national symbol in the country, but it is also a dying livelihood. Outside of sampaguita garlands sold by children in streets and a few products, there isn’t much use for the flower. Savoy Hotel Manila revives the use of sampaguita through its partnership with local communities that grow this plant. The national flower is used as local scent in common areas, as a blend for sampaguita oil used in their Signature Massage, and as ingredient in their own dishes and cocktails. I personally love the hotel’s Sampaguita Project. Admittedly, I didn’t know much about growing sampaguitas, but it’s nice to know that it’s being utilized properly to give a distinct Filipino touch and, of course, to help local communities as well. Our group sampled the hotel’s sampaguita-infused cocktails and food during a fun Thursday BBQ Night at the poolside. I personally love the Tamarind Mojito, while the Sampaguita Bliss I would recommend for those who likes drinks with a lemon juice base. Executive Chef Kit Carpio also served us Sampaguita-Rubbed Pork BBQ, Pan-Seared Sea Bass with Rice Pilaf (served with sweet mango salsa, a personal favorite), and Tres Leches Sampaguita, which are small cakes soaked in milk with sampaguita. After the dinner, we booked a one-hour Signature Massage, which uses their special blend of sampaguita oil. It was a relaxing massage and a perfect activity to cap the day. 4. Other Hotel Initiatives Since 2022, the hotel has employed various programs to reduce waste. Its “Waste We Can” program has successfully diverted 2.5 tons of recyclable waste from landfills between 2022 and 2024. In 2022, it held a “Trash to Cash” program to transform waste into value and promote recycling awareness. 5. Worldwide Recognitions Savoy Hotel Manila’s efforts have received acknowledgments from the following: Sustainable stays at Savoy Hotel Manila Under the management of Mega World Corporation, Savoy Hotel Manila’s urban gardens, waste reduction strategies, and local partnerships set a high standard for urban hotels in the Philippines. As the hospitality industry faces growing pressure to decarbonize—experts estimate a 90% emissions reduction is needed by 2050—Savoy’s proactive approach positions it as a leader in sustainable tourism. For eco-conscious travelers like me, staying at an eco-friendly hotel like Savoy aligns with my values and commitment to sustainability practices. Whether you’re a local seeking a staycation or an international guest looking staying in Manila, Savoy Hotel Manila offers a guilt-free escape. You can check more about Savoy Hotel Manila’s green initiatives on their website. You can also book discounted rates here. Avoid the Offload: Immigration Tips for Filipino Travelers - Tara Lets Anywhere

As Filipinos, one of our “perceived” challenges when taking a vacation abroad is passing through the immigration. We’ve all heard stories of locals being offloaded, from people we know personally to online users sharing their stories (including a particularly viral story about being asked to show a high school yearbook as proof). Passing the immigration is hence the first crucial step you need to take. I also have a relevant personal experience. At the onset of the pandemic, I booked a solo trip to Taiwan. Because I was currently unemployed, I was held at the immigration for about 45 minutes. There was a queue, which took a while, and it was my turn I had to prove to the immigration officer that I had funds for traveler. I accessed my accounts online, but it took long because the immigration area had poor mobile signal and the pages wouldn’t load. I should’ve been more ready, yes, but if there’s one thing I did right, it’s that I arrived at the airport 3 hours before the flight, so I had time to spare before the calls for onboarding. The fact is: passing thru the immigration can be particularly worrisome if you’re a first-time tourist abroad. In fact, a lot of people note that the Philippine immigration may even be tougher than foreign checkpoints. Regardless if you’re a newbie or a seasoned traveler, here are practical tips to help ensure a hassle-free experience at the immigration checkpoint. Contents1. Ensure basic travel documents are complete2. Prepare Supporting Documents3. Arrive early and be organized4. Be ready for common questions5. Know your destination’s rules6. Avoid common mistakes7. Stay up-to-dateUnderstanding Philippine Immigration ChecksYour Profile as a Filipino Traveler 1. Ensure basic travel documents are complete Make sure that you have the following: 2. Prepare Supporting Documents Immigration officers may ask for proof of your travel and financial capacity. Philippine immigration, in particular, may check your “ties to the Philippines” to ensure you won’t overstay abroad. Here are the essential supporting documents that you need: 3. Arrive early and be organized 4. Be ready for common questions Be direst and honest. Avoid over-explaining or being vague, as this might raise suspicion. Immigration officers often ask simple but direct questions like: 5. Know your destination’s rules Research entry requirements for your destination (e.g., visa exemptions, vaccination proof, health declarations). Some countries may require: For visa-free countries like ASEAN nations, Japan, or Korea, many seasoned tourists suggest carrying proof of accommodation and enough cash (e.g., $500–1,000 or equivalent). For strict countries like Australia or the UK, expect more questions about your travel history and purpose. It’s recommended to know basic details about your destination (e.g., landmarks you’ll visit). 6. Avoid common mistakes 7. Stay up-to-date Check the Philippine Immigration website for the latest travel advisories and requirements. It’s also best to check travel groups or forums for recent immigration experiences, as policies can change (e.g., stricter checks during peak seasons). Understanding Philippine Immigration Checks Most Filipino tourists pass through the immigration successfully. Offloading risks are greater for tourists who seem underprepared (no job, no savings, vague plans, etc.) so being prepared is necessary.  To give you more idea about the immigration process: Avoid red flags: Inconsistent stories, lack of return tickets, or suspicious behavior (e.g., nervousness) can lead to further questioning or offloading. Your Profile as a Filipino Traveler If you’ve traveled before without issues, your passport stamps can work in your favor. Officers often view frequent travelers as less risky. On the other hand, there are special cases that may face more scrutiny. These include: By preparing ahead of time, you can minimize the chances of being delayed or offloaded at the immigration. 8 Habits to Develop to Achieve Your Financial Goals Sooner Rather Than Later - Tara Lets Anywhere

Picture this: You’re scrolling through your feed, and you stumble upon an old acquaintance who’s just bought their dream condo or finally launched their small business. You remember that you both were in similar financial situations not too long ago. For a moment, you start wishing you had what they had.  But here lies the rub. Self-driven financial success doesn’t come easy. Most of the time, you either have to grind and wait a long time, put everything on the line, or do something in between. Suffice it to say, it probably won’t come to you unless you work for it. For many people, the problem is not knowing where to begin. The path is different for everyone, and there are no guarantees. Still, there are commonalities among the financially successful people that we can learn from. Develop these helpful habits to start your wealth-building journey on the right foot: Contents1. Choose a Good Savings Account2. Set Clear and Realistic Long and Short-Term Financial Goals3. Make it a Habit to Track Your Expenses4. Build a Separate Emergency Fund5. Set Reminds to Top Up Your Savings and Other Funds6. Live Below Your Means7. Invest Early8. Increase Your Income StreamsBonus: Surround Yourself with Financially Savvy PeopleRemember to Stay On Target 1. Choose a Good Savings Account A reliable savings account is the foundation of a safe financial journey. However, your employee payroll account probably won’t cut it. To efficiently build wealth, you want a savings deposit account with competitive interest rates, low fees, and digital convenience.  While traditional banks do have some good options, emerging digital banks like Maya are currently among the best in terms of interest rates. The other good thing about these options is that they tend to have easy-to-navigate, transparent apps and easy fund management right from your phone. The app alone will save you time spent waiting in a bank as well as increasingly high over-the-counter fees. 2. Set Clear and Realistic Long and Short-Term Financial Goals You can’t hit goals that you never set in the first place. Setting clear, measurable goals like “save PHP 100,000 for a travel fund in one year” or other more specific goals will keep you from buying impulsively and motivate you to save up.  To make the process easier and more concrete, you can use features like that of Maya Personal Goals to create temporary sub-accounts dedicated to particular short-term financial goals and contribute to them consistently; when you’ve hit your savings goal on its due date, you can collect a guaranteed 4% interest rate on the sum of your contributions.  With time and a structured approach, you will develop the discipline and patience needed to hit bigger and bigger goals. Like with Maya Personal Goals, it helps to follow a time-bound structure for saving. 3. Make it a Habit to Track Your Expenses A clear sign of poor money habits is not knowing where your income goes. That’s exactly why tracking your expenses is so important. Try to keep all your physical and digital receipts, and use budgeting apps to categorize your spending and spot patterns that are derailing your wealth-building journey.  Once you start doing this, you may realize that you’re spending too freely on things like food delivery, alcohol, or midnight online shopping sprees. When you start tracking, these things can truly become conscious choices rather than budget-impacting impulse purchases. 4. Build a Separate Emergency Fund As soon as you have breathing room, consider opening a separate bank account separate from your primary savings and use it as your emergency fund. Unless you’re unusually lucky, medical bills, sudden job loss, or other disasters will eventually slow down your wealth-building journey, and having something to cushion the blow will be of immense help.  Aim to save at least three months’ worth of living expenses or, if you have a bigger income, the equivalent of your monthly salary. Generally, you don’t want to exceed six months’ worth of income, since that extra cash will likely grow faster in investments rather than in savings.  5. Set Reminds to Top Up Your Savings and Other Funds Set reminders or set your apps to consistently top up your savings, emergency funds, and investments on your salary dates so that you have the money to sink into them. Delaying might lead you to spend cash allocated for other areas on unimportant things, thus slowing down your journey even further. 6. Live Below Your Means To continue off the last habit, it’s tempting to spend on luxuries, especially as the stress of work and family life sets in. You shouldn’t deprive yourself of the better things in life, but you should take care to be intentional with whatever income you have coming in. Choices like cooking meals at home, waiting for sales and discounts, or opting for secondhand items all add up and help build character as much as they build wealth. 7. Invest Early As soon as you have money left over after your savings and emergency fund commitments, consider spending on investments. The sooner you start investing, the more your money grows through compound interest.  It gets complicated once you explore more complex types of investment vehicles, but you don’t need to be an expert to get started. You can always just start with relatively safe investment types, like mutual funds, unit investment trust funds (UITFs), or beginner-friendly time deposit accounts like Maya’s Time Deposit Plus. Then, you can study more specific areas like stocks, real estate, or emerging digital assets if you feel you can manage the risks. 8. Increase Your Income Streams Relying solely on your salary can be limiting, especially if you live on a median Philippine salary. Outside of investments, also consider side hustles like freelancing, online selling, or content creation. If you have a talent or hobby, turn it into an income source to offset the cost and, perhaps, earn a positive income that can go towards your savings. Bonus: Surround Yourself with Financially Savvy People The road to financial success is a lot lonelier than you might expect, especially when you’re with people who do not value wealth-building like you do. But if you surround yourself with friends or mentors who are good with money, the journey will become that much lighter, and you might get to where you want faster than you expected. Remember to Stay On Target In truth, hitting your financial goals is almost entirely about discipline. It doesn’t matter if you’re aiming to own a first home, start a business, or retire early. The key is to start today and manage your finances as consistently and responsibly as you can.  It won’t be easy, but it does get better. Keep your eye on the future and you will thank yourself later when the time comes. Get discounts on your travels! When you can work from anywhere, why not work from one of the most beautiful places on earth? Bali presents an affordable living paradise for digital nomads with its luscious landscapes and vibrant culture. With so much to offer, remote workers are flocking to it like it’s some kind of digital nomad mecca. If you are tempted to try out the epitome of work and leisure in Bali, then this guide will give you some food for thought on how to thrive there as a digital nomad. ContentsChoosing The Perfect BaseCanggu: Trendy & Surf-FriendlyUbud: Spiritual & InspiringSeminyak: Lux & IndulgentProductive Workspaces: Connect & CoworkCoworking in BaliInternet & Tech ToolsAccommodation ChoicesShort-Term or Long-TermGetting Around in BaliScooter FeverRide-ShareExploring The Bali LifestyleStaying ActiveLocal TraditionsThriving in Bali as a Digital Nomad Choosing The Perfect Base Bali is a cultural haven and different areas attract different settlers with their unique vibes. Finding one that caters to your lifestyle and still covers your professional needs is key. Canggu: Trendy & Surf-Friendly Canggu is well known for its coworking paces making it a top destination for digital nomads. It has a very lively social scene and is full of trendy cafes that suit the modern hipster. Its surf-friendly beaches are a popular way to enjoy your downtime when away from the screen. Ubud: Spiritual & Inspiring If you enjoy a slower pace of life or make wellness-related content then head for Ubud. With nothing but jungle or rice fields for miles it’s a tranquil setting that inspires creativity. There are tons of yoga retreats to try and some great people to meet. Seminyak: Lux & Indulgent If it’s chic that you are looking for then Seminyak might be more up your street with its high-end dining and beach clubs.  Digital nomads who prefer the finer things in life will love the range of luxury accommodations available and premium leisure to enjoy when the work day is through. Productive Workspaces: Connect & Cowork For a digital nomad, nothing is more important than a stable connection and a productive workspace. As a haven for remote workers Bali has a thriving coworking scene with a range of options to choose from. Coworking in Bali Canggu and Ubud which we recommended above are both full of coworking spaces with fast Wi-Fi. Dojo in Canggu and Hubud in Ubud also have a lot of community events which are great for networking and collaboration. Internet & Tech Tools Mobile network download speeds in Indonesia reach over 29 Mbps, and most coworking spaces have access to high-speed internet.  Many cafes also have public Wi-Fi that can be accessed. Still, it is essential to remember the risks involved with unsecured networks, especially if your work deals with sensitive information.  They are also typically restrictive with other users sharing the connection so if you deal with streaming-heavy tasks you might be out of luck. Investing in a gamer VPN can help secure your connections and ensure they are optimally fast.  Accommodation Choices Nomadic life should still be comfortable. Fortunately, accommodation in Bali comes in a variety, so you can find something to suit you whether your budget is tight or not. The real determiner is how long you will be staying. Short-Term or Long-Term If you don’t plan to stay for long, or just aren’t sure then check out Airbnb and Booking.com for a flexible stay while you explore the island. In the long term, you might want to reach out to local estate agents for a suitable villa to rent or scroll through social media groups to find a shared house. Renting a villa for an extended stay often comes with the bonus of a housekeeper and better amenities such as private pools. Getting Around in Bali Below are a couple of tips for getting around on the island; Bali is a great place to explore. Scooter Fever The most popular and affordable way to navigate Bali’s winding roads is by scooter. Just get familiar with the local traffic rules, and be sure to wear a helmet! Ride-Share Gojek and Grab are great apps to install and ensure you have a ride-share for a short journey. Both will also deliver food! Exploring The Bali Lifestyle Bali has a tonne of activities going on and is full of traditions and culture to immerse yourself in while you strive for that work-life balance. Staying Active Bali has a lot of wellness centers that host numerous workshops, you can also take yoga or sign up for beach workout programs to stay active and have fun. Local Traditions Bali is rich with culture there are some great traditions to experience through cultural workshops, that teach the island’s heritage.  Temple ceremonies are humbling, and Balinese cooking is to die for. Be sure to get the full local dining experience. Why not go one step further and learn how to make a popular dish? Thriving in Bali as a Digital Nomad The inspiring landscapes and community support in the coworking areas of Bali give it the perfect qualities for a remote work destination. Whether it’s tranquility that you are after or a vibrant cultural immersion there’s plenty on offer for the digital nomad looking to combine business and leisure on their own terms surrounded by beauty. Health on the Move: Signs to Watch While Traveling - Tara Lets Anywhere

Did you know that nearly 60% of travelers experience health issues while on the move, ranging from mild discomforts to more serious concerns? Whether it’s a long-awaited holiday or a critical business trip, being mindful of your health while traveling is essential. Often, minor symptoms can be easy to overlook, but paying attention to these subtle signs can help prevent complications and ensure a smoother journey. ContentsHealth Risks Associated with TravelCommon Health Signs to Monitor While Traveling1. Breathing Difficulties or Persistent Cough2. Extreme Fatigue3. Swelling or Sudden PainDigestive IssuesChanges in Skin or AppearancePersistent HeadachesProactive Tips for Staying Healthy While Traveling1. Prepare Before You Travel2. Stay Hydrated3. Mind Your Movement4. Prioritize Sleep5. Pack a Travel Health Kit6. Be Mindful of Food and WaterHow to Handle Symptoms During TravelSupporting Long-Term Health Awareness Health Risks Associated with Travel Traveling is exhilarating but exposes your body to stressors you may not encounter in your daily routine. Changes in altitude, exposure to new environments, different time zones, and unfamiliar food can all contribute to health challenges. While most issues are minor—like dehydration or temporary jet lag—others, such as respiratory problems or blood clots, could signal underlying health concerns that require immediate attention. The key is to know what to watch for and how to respond if symptoms persist or worsen. Common Health Signs to Monitor While Traveling 1. Breathing Difficulties or Persistent Cough Air travel and exposure to unfamiliar environments can strain the respiratory system. Breathing difficulties, such as shortness of breath or a persistent cough, are common complaints for many travelers. While these symptoms might initially seem like a cold or allergies, they could also be early indicators of something more serious, such as lung cancer or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Lung-related illnesses often present with subtle symptoms that are easy to dismiss in a busy travel schedule. If you notice persistent respiratory symptoms, it’s crucial to seek medical advice. To learn more about potential warning signs and what they might mean, visit the Moffitt Cancer Center, which offers a comprehensive guide on early symptoms of lung cancer and when to take action. 2. Extreme Fatigue Fatigue is a common side effect of travel, often caused by jet lag or long hours in transit. However, fatigue that persists for several days, even after adequate rest, could indicate an underlying issue. Conditions like anemia, infections, thyroid problems, or even cardiovascular disease can manifest through prolonged tiredness. Be mindful if your energy levels remain unusually low or if other symptoms, such as dizziness, shortness of breath, or muscle weakness, accompany your fatigue. Keep in mind that addressing persistent fatigue early can prevent further complications. 3. Swelling or Sudden Pain Sitting for extended periods during long flights or car journeys can increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the legs, and can lead to life-threatening complications if the clot travels to the lungs. Common signs include swelling in one leg, redness, warmth, or pain in the calf or thigh. Preventive measures, such as wearing compression socks, staying hydrated, and moving your legs periodically, are essential during long journeys. If you notice these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention. Digestive Issues Traveling often involves indulging in new cuisines and eating outside your usual schedule. While mild digestive discomforts like bloating or constipation are normal, persistent symptoms such as severe cramping, frequent diarrhea, or blood in the stool could indicate something more serious, such as an infection or a gastrointestinal condition. Maintaining good hygiene, such as washing hands before meals and avoiding undercooked foods, can help prevent these issues. If problems persist, it’s important to consult a doctor. Changes in Skin or Appearance New environments, sun exposure, and skincare routine changes can lead to skin irritation, rashes, or allergic reactions. While most skin changes are harmless, certain symptoms—such as rapidly growing moles, asymmetrical shapes, or changes in color—could be early signs of skin cancer. Make it a habit to check your skin regularly, especially after prolonged sun exposure. Wearing sunscreen and protective clothing is also vital to prevent long-term damage. Persistent Headaches Headaches can result from dehydration, stress, lack of sleep, or altitude changes. However, persistent or severe headaches that don’t improve with over-the-counter medication might indicate a more serious problem, such as migraines, high blood pressure, or even neurological issues. If you experience a headache that worsens over time or is accompanied by symptoms like vision changes or confusion, it’s essential to seek medical evaluation. Proactive Tips for Staying Healthy While Traveling Staying healthy while on the move involves a combination of preparation and mindfulness. Here are some practical steps to keep in mind: 1. Prepare Before You Travel 2. Stay Hydrated 3. Mind Your Movement 4. Prioritize Sleep 5. Pack a Travel Health Kit Include essentials such as: 6. Be Mindful of Food and Water How to Handle Symptoms During Travel If you or a loved one experience concerning symptoms while traveling, follow these steps: Supporting Long-Term Health Awareness Traveling offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with your body and identify any potential health issues. By staying vigilant, preparing adequately, and listening to your body, you can enjoy your journey to the fullest while safeguarding your health. 9 Exciting Activities on a Cruise - Tara Lets Anywhere

Life can get rough sometimes, and finding a convenient escape is always nice. One exotic way to get away from the usual is by cruise. The possibilities are endless in the open blue, surrounded by new faces. However, if you’ve never been on a cruise, you might be overwhelmed by the endless list of activities. Thankfully, this guide is all you need to make the right choices. ContentsBefore you go1. Pool hopping2. Take advantage of all-you-can-eat3. Get out of your comfort zone with mixers4. Heal with retail therapy5. Get lucky at a casino6. See a show or two7. Get yourself right with wellness activities8. Try a new or familiar sport9. Play at eye-catching arcades and prizes Before you go Before heading off to find Royal Caribbean international cruises, take a moment to consider what you want to try during your cruise. You might not make the most of your time at sea if you don’t plan. Of the many reasons to try a cruise, the carefully planned events on board are high on the list. You might recognize some of the events below, while others will be novel. Either way, be sure to stick around until the end. Whether you’re off to the favorite destinations like Southern Caribbean, Mediterranean, or other local jump-off points like Orlando, here are some activities you should consider trying on your next cruise! 1. Pool hopping Nothing screams vacation like lounging by a massive pool overlooking the ocean. If you’re lucky and book the right cruise liner, you might enjoy an intricate waterway system that will keep you occupied for a long while. If you don’t fancy getting wet on the first day, that’s perfectly fine! Pools often have bars attached to them and are a great way to mingle and meet new people. You might find a cruise buddy on your first day beside the pool. So, be sure to give it a try. 2. Take advantage of all-you-can-eat The all-you-can-eat package often comes with your ticket as a bundle and is quite literal. If you play your cards right, no cuisine served on board will be out of your reach. This offers a great opportunity to broaden your palate. If you cruise through different regions, you might get to taste some of the best dishes from each stop. You can taste a bit of everything and not get bored with food because each day comes with a different surprise for your tongue. 3. Get out of your comfort zone with mixers If you’re open to new experiences and making new friends, then the organized mixer events on board are a perfect opportunity. Depending on the theme, you can enjoy a night of drinks, dancing, and easy-flowing conversations with strangers. The best part about mixing with other passengers is that you have the entire cruise to get to know them better if you find the right person. Take the opportunity whenever it presents itself, and try to relax. 4. Heal with retail therapy If you enjoy the occasional shopping spree, you might be in luck. Most cruise lines have entire sections dedicated to shopping. If you find yourself on one, it doesn’t hurt to look around, even if you don’t plan to buy anything. Shopping is an easy way to feed your eyes and your soul. Also, you never know when you might find something you like enough to splurge on a little. The idea is to be open to some retail therapy ultimately, and you’ll feel a lot better after. 5. Get lucky at a casino Some cruises offer a bit more adult entertainment in the form of a casino. If you’ve always wanted to try gambling, then this could be your chance! A good casino will have the classics, like poker, blackjack, and maybe Texas Hold’em. But if the classic tabletop games aren’t your speed, you could also try pokies and slot machines. You will have a great time once you hit that sweet spot of winning vs. risk. Just gamble responsibly, and never go in with money you aren’t ready to lose. 6. See a show or two When you successfully book your getaway, you’ll likely be provided with an extensive list of activities on board. If you scan the itinerary, you might notice a show or two. It could be a musical performance, a play, or a comedy show. Regardless of what the show might be, be sure to give some of them a try. The right performer will make your stay on board that much more enjoyable. You could also enjoy the shows with friends and family or even acquaintances you meet and make onboard the ship. 7. Get yourself right with wellness activities The ultimate goal of any cruise is to help you unwind and shake off the stress of daily life. What better way to do that than with enriching activities like yoga, meditation, or a spa day? Controlling your breathing in certain poses could help you rediscover your missing mental balance. Also, the right spa experts could help you shake off the shackles of everyday life. A nice, relaxing massage for a few moments in a sauna or a hot tub might be all you need to be renewed. These activities also provide the energy you need to enjoy the rest of the cruise. 8. Try a new or familiar sport The sports available on your cruise depend on the liner, but you should expect some deck-friendly usuals. Games like shuffleboard are mainstays and could be fun, whether or not you’re familiar with them. You might also encounter court sports like pickleball, tennis, and possibly badminton. You’d be lucky to discover that your cruise liner has a bowling alley, providing the perfect opportunity to show off your skills. It’s important to keep active, regardless of what sport you choose. So, just keep this in mind. 9. Play at eye-catching arcades and prizes Some liners come with a fully furnished arcade. You can expect classics like Street Fighter, DDR, and lesser-known titles. You might also decide to lock in with crane games and try to win prizes for yourself or a loved one. Any arcade is worth trying at least once, regardless of what draws you. The draw of the ocean is real. Many have changed their lives fundamentally thanks to a fantastic time on a cruise. So, if you’ve been on the fence about booking one, make the leap. You might make memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Get discounts on your travels! Unique aesthetic There is a reason why analogue photography is considered timeless — analogue cameras produce images with a distinct, organic quality that is hard to reproduce, even with today’s digital filters. Especially if you compare them with the sharp, glass-like quality photos that you get from a smartphone. And if you’re an analogue film photographer, you know the feeling of getting a shot that’s absolutely beautiful that you need to take a pause to appreciate it. And with film cameras, you’re not just limited on one look. Different film stocks offer unique color palettes, grain structures, and tones that add character to the photos. So whether it’s a beginner-friendly 35mm film camera or a more advanced model for pros, a film camera can help your produce your own visual story. 2. Intentional storytelling With a smartphone, or a digital camera even, you can easily take hundreds to thousands of photos for a few days’ trip. Indeed, one of the benefits of modern photography is its ease and convenience. Film cameras take a different approach. With only 24 or 36 exposures per roll, each shot must be carefully selected. In a way, it reminds you to slow done and helps you develop a better shooting habit. Instead of just snapping endlessly, you learn how to choose the more meaningful moments and truly engage with your surroundings. 3. Tangible memories One of the main benefits of a film camera is that it allows you to have a physical copy of your photographs, which you can then use for displays in your living room, a travel journal, or a regular photo album for keeping. You won’t have to worry about accidental file deletions, memory limits, or other tech-related loss. And if you do want to upload the photos digitally, you can find various ways to scan them in the future. 4. Good conversation starter We personally think that analogue cameras are cool, don’t you agree? And carrying one is a good conversation starter, especially with locals and fellow travelers. 5. Photography as a hobby If you’re looking for a new hobby, and one that you can enjoy while traveling around the world, then you definitely need to start using a film camera. There is much to learn about analogue photography – from using manual controls for focus, exposure, and aperture to knowing how to print and develop, and even how to repair. Over time, these challenges foster patience and improve photographic skills, making each shot even more rewarding. Moreover, you can easily find online analogue photography communities and meet like-minded fellows! Film cameras vs. digital and smartphone Film cameras are very different from smartphone and digital cameras. At the end of the day, it’s about preferences. In a way, it is similar to traditional art and digital art – some people prefer using a physical brush, while others like using a Wacom better. Using a film camera requires a different mindset, different workflow, and different photo taking habits. When you use a film camera especially on a trip, you’ll eventually learn how to take the right shot the first time. And the reward is not just beautiful, grainy prints but a sense of fulfillment as well. Tips for traveling with an analogue camera Have you ever traveled with an analogue camera? Quiapo Food Trip: From Street Food to Unique Maranao Dishes - Tara Lets Anywhere

When it comes to food trip spots around Metro Manila, Quiapo rarely comes to mind. Instead, most people head to Maginhawa, Kapitolyo, Poblacion, or BGC, to name a few. And that’s a shame because there are delicious cuisines to be found in this district! I’ve already done this food crawl twice. The first was a paid food tour by Sir Jing Ordoña (Manilakad Tours), a local historian who knows the streets in Quiapo like the back of his hands. The second was a casual food trip with friends, where we checked out some spots missed on my first time here. I’ve written this guide for people like me who likes discovering new cuisines in the Philippines. As a travel blogger who’s done food crawls even in far-flung places like Zamboanga, I find Quiapo to be an underrated foodie destination and here you’ll find out why. In this guide, you’ll find the best Quiapo restaurants and food stalls we’ve visited, as well as those recommended by others. For the spots I’ve personally tried, you’ll find and honest review on whether it’s really worth it to visit. Are you ready? Tara lets mag-foodtrip sa Quiapo! Note: Please check current prices on the restaurants’ respective social media pages. Prices may vary without notice. Notably, it is home to Quiapo Church, a spiritual landmark home to the revered Black Nazarene statue. When doing a Quiapo food trip, expect to visit bustling local markets, streetside carinderias, and other lesser-known food stops. Here you can find not just regular local food, but delicious Maranao cuisine, as well as Asian/Middle Eastern fare. The food prices here are pretty affordable — in fact, some of the most affordable prices I’ve seen while living in the metro. Where else can you get a delicious rice meal for only P30? So don’t worry about budgeting. Just bring enough appetite and curiousity to discover Quiapo’s best offers. Best Restaurants and Other Food Stops Aling Mely’s Turon This is a pop-up stall that sells giant turon, as well as banana cue. It’s said that this is SM’s inspiration for their popular langka turon. Starting in 1981, Aling Mely has been selling turon for over 40 years now, that the food stall is practically a landmark in the Quiapo food scene. With this, she was able to send her six children to school. Each turon is large and consist of three or four pieces of saba, strips of langka, and sesame seeds. Oh, and each one costs P25 only! I liked this stop, as it’s historical as much as a fun addition to our food trip. Note: This food stall is open from 2 PM to 5 or 6 PM only. It is easy to miss. It’s located in front of Casa Consulado, along San Sebastian Street, beside San Sebastian Church. Quinta Market This is a great place to find fresh produce, meat, and seafood. If you’re not keen on exploring the rest of Quiapo, you can keep it safe and shop at Quinta Market instead. You can find typical street food, the famous Quiapo-style sotanghon soup, as well as tubs of chicken biryani. Muslim Town When doing a food tour around Quiapo, the one place you shouldn’t miss is the Muslim Town. Here you can find streetside vendors and eateries offering Maranao food, halal food for Muslims, and Asian/Middle Eastern food. Take a stroll around its bustling streets. Some of the notable items you’ll find are: Pater ni Intan This pop-up carinderia is one of the best places to taste Maranao food. They sell mainly chicken piaparan and chicken riyandang (or rendang). If you’re lucky, you might even witness them preparing the food in a large wok! Piaparan and riyandang are delicious, spicy dishes made with palapa, grated coconut (or papar), and a variety of herbs and spices. Piaparan uses turmeric, while rendang uses soy sauce. I love this spot so much that I always make sure to order extra for take home. I think it’s tastier than the usual viands we know. As of our visit, each complete rice meal costs P30 only! Take note: these dishes are really spicy. I can comfortably eat piaparan, but riyandang is a bit of a challenge for me. Make sure to have something to quench the spiciness if you’re not used to eating spicy. June-Nairah Halal Food Restaurant This restaurant serves a wide range of Maranao-style, halal food including piaparan and beef rendang. A decent option if you want to taste Maranao food with a proper sit-down area. Arab Asian Resto Cafe A short walk from Pater ni Intan, you’ll find Arab Asian Resto Café, a restaurant that serves various food such as roti and paratha bread, chicken masala, biryani, and more. Drinks like teh tarik, kopi, and lassi are also available. This is one of my favorites for a variety of reasons. One is that they serve roti and teh tarik that taste similar to that in Kuala Lumpur. It certainly gave me feelings of nostalgia. We also tried a few of their rice dishes, which were all delicious. The prices here are really affordable, too. I couldn’t believe my eyes when their mug of teh tarik costs P35, when in other restaurants here this usually costs P100 or above. While waiting for your food, take a look around the café. They house a collection of miniature houses and other toys. Or just enjoy the airconditioning — a rare amenity when exploring Quiapo. Jolli Dada’s Eatery Jolli Dada’s Eatery is famous for their palabok, as well as halo-halo. It has recently become viral when it got featured in the documentary Manila Food Streetfood, Season 2. This casual eatery is one of Quiapo’s oldest dining spots. It was established in 1940 by Aling Dada’s great grandmother. It was then managed by Jolli Dada until her passing away in 2021. Today, it’s being run by Jolli Dada’s relatives. When we first visited here, the queue was so long that we just ordered from the other palabok stall beside it. On our second visit, we were able to finally get seats. The palaboks were already prepared beforehand, so you don’t have to wait when you order. I think the palabok was decent. The sauce is thick and has various toppings like squid and egg. There are other palabok versions that I think are better. But for P70 per order, I really wouldn’t complain. Jolli Dada’s Eatery is located at Lutong Maynila, a food court under Quiapo Bridge, just beside Quinta Market and Fish Port.   5&2 Coffeehouse 5&2 Coffeehouse is a modern café located along Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo. They feature coffee, pastries, and snacks with a Filipino twist. Some of their bestsellers include Ube Latik Latte, Palitaw Latte, Buko Pandan Latte, and Mango Latte. For food, try out their black kutsina with yema dip and nilupak. This café is interesting because it stands in contrast to the nitty-gritty feel of Quiapo. It’s a nice spot to hang out and chill when you’re tired of shopping or sampling food outside. I also like that they’re innovating drinks with a local twisst. I tried the Palitaw Latte and it tasted just like palitaw. Haha. I don’t know what I was expecting. Nilupak was good although a bit sweet for me. Nonetheless, this is another food stop I would recommend on a Quiapo food crawl. Globe Lumpia House Globe Lumpia House is famous for its lumpiang sariwa, a fresh vegetable spring roll made with heart of palm or ubod. It’s sometimes compared to the famous lumpiang sariwa in Binondo. We tried just one piece of lumpiang sariwa. It was too soggy for me. That’s all I can say. Pasalubong Don’t leave Quiapo without stopping by at least one of these pasalubong places: Bakerite Bakery Bakerite Bakery is one of the oldest bakeries in Quiapo District. It was established in 1946 by an immigrant from China. They are known for their soft breads, especially the Rainbow Bread. Fun fact: This is also where Filipinos got the term “tasty,” which is used to refer to any white bread loaf. We tried their ensaymada and corned beef pandesal, which were okay. I don’t think it’s much different from other breads you can get elsewhere, but it’s a good stop if you want to get to know more about historical establishments in Quiapo. Currently, there are two branches of Bakerite Bakery in Quiapo. Kim Chong Tin Hopia Factory Hopia is one of the beloved snacks among Filipinos. Established in 1927, this hopia factory makes traditional pugon-baked hopia that you can enjoy or take home as pasalubong. Here you can try various kinds of hopia, such as regular monggo, black monggo, baboy, and salted egg. Excelente Chinese Cooked Ham Excelente is a popular spot for Chinese-cooked ham. Expect long queues especially during the holiday season. They also offer ham sandwiches, if you just want to try the meat. It is located close to Kim Chong Tin Hopia Factory. Café Kabuhayan This stall is located beside Quinta Market, just across Jolli Dada’s Eatery. They sell raw coffee beans from all over the Philippines. You can actually smell the delicious aroma of the beans as you look at the displayed jars. Whether it’s Sagada Arabica, Benguet, Kalinga, or Barako — you can find that here in Café Kabuhayan. The prices are affordable and you can buy them at half or whole kilos. Other Spots to Visit in Quiapo These are some Quiapo tourist attractions that you can visit if you have more time. There are more historical streets and areas than included here, but in my opinion if you’re visiting for the food, it’s best to focus on the food. Quiapo Church One of the landmarks at Quiapo District. It is home to the Black Nazarene. Around the church, you’ll find alternative medicines, herbs, and fortune tellers. San Sebastian Church The only Gothic-style church in the Philippines. This is near Aling Mely’s turn food stall, so you might as well make a short stop to see the all-metal structure and stained-glass windows inside. Golden Mosque Located at Muslim Town, the Golden Mosque (or Masjid al-Dahab in Arabic) is a place of worship known by its distinct golden dome, topped with a crescent moon. It was built by (now convicted) First Lady Imelda Marcos to honor the visit of then Libya President Muammar al-Gaddafi. However, the president’s visit was eventually canceled. Today, it stands as a center of Islamic culture in Manila. Reminders and Tips Here are some essential must-knows when you’re visiting Quiapo for a food crawl: What to Bring Here are the things you should bring: How to Plan Your Quiapo Food Trip I suggest getting a Google Map and then putting a pin on places you want to visit. If you want to start at the center, here is a rough itinerary: In my recent visit, we started around 9 AM and then had our final stop at around 2 PM. This was a very relaxed food crawl, with plenty of time to chat while eating. This food trip is very budget-friendly. We are a group of 3 people and we spent about P500 each only. How to get to Quiapo There are various ways to get to Quiapo, depending on where you’re coming from. By commute By private car If you’re bringing a private car, take note of the limited parking spaces in Quiapo. Here are some of the parking spots you can try: That ends our Quiapo food...

Happy Farm Villas: A Natural Hot Spring Resort in Bay, Laguna - Tara Lets Anywhere

When it comes to hot spring resorts, Laguna is indisputably the best area to visit — whether it’s for a casual get-together or a special celebration of sorts. And while most people immediately head to Pansol, there are similar places in the province offering the same hot spring experience, but without the crowds. Happy Farm Villas is a natural hot spring resort found in Bay, Laguna. I know — Hali and I were surprised to find a resort here, too! Like other resorts in Laguna, sources its water from Mount Makiling. Here’s our review of Happy Farm Villas. ContentsOur stay at Happy Farm VillasNatural PoolRoomsOther amenitiesFinal VerdictBook your stay at Happy Farm VillasWhat to read next: Our stay at Happy Farm Villas My boyfriend Hali and I stayed here overnight along with other travel bloggers. Happy Farm Villas is a luxurious hot spring resort, tucked in subdivision in Bay, Laguna. It’s surrounded by farmlands, making it a perfect place for relaxation. Something that we learned is that it was newly acquired and renovated, specifically to cater to the growing number of families looking for private accommodations since the pandemic. The land next to it will soon be the home of a second private villa. This private hot spring resort features mostly a minimalist white interior, splashed with nature-centric designs and wooden furniture like rattan and bamboo. Natural Pool The main feature of the resort is its natural hot spring pool, which has an adult section (up to 5 feet) and a kiddie section (3 feet). For every booked guests, the water is drained and refilled anew, so if there is a booking before you, it might take a while for the pool to be filled. No worries, you can lay down in the pool beds or take a photo at the bath tub outside. My favorite nook in the resort, but no — it is not functional. The water in the pool was really warm, by the way. Hali and I swam the next day, and it was still warmer than expected. We enjoyed swimming and splashing ourselves, or otherwise looking at the mountains outside the resort just visible from the poolside. Because the natural hot spring water contains sulfur, it may change color when it rains. It is a natural reaction and it’s still good for swimming. Rooms This private resort has four bedrooms, each with 2 double beds (and an extra single bed, as needed), airconditioning, smart TV, and en suite bathroom. Towels are provided, but you need to bring your own toiletries. The rooms, including the bathrooms, are really spacious. You can bring luggages in here and it won’t be cramped. Our room was comfortable to sleep in. I also liked the black-out curtain — I slept in later than intended, not that I’m complaining! I notice, though, that there was no heater in the shower. If you’d just come from the hot spring pool, then the lukewarm water would feel just right. Other amenities When it comes to Filipino get-togethers, eating is a huge part of the occasion. The resort has an outdoor dining area, an outdoor kitchen equipped with cookware, a water dispenser with complimentary water, and an outdoor grill. Basically, most of what you need to cook and enjoy your meals. (Note: plates and utensils are not included, so you need to bring those.) For other leisure and entertainment, there is also a sauna that’s free to use and a communal area with billiards, table tennis, foosball, and darts. We skipped these, but we used of the videoke room to belt out some beats. The room is soundproof, but as per local ordinance videokes are only allowed up to 11PM. If you have kids with you, you can use the mini-playground beside the pool as well. Final Verdict Overall, we were happy with our stay at Happy Farm Villas. Our room was comfortable, and swimming at a hot spring pool for us is always a nice experience. There is just something draining about living at the metro, don’t you think? That’s why it’s important to recharge yourself every now and then. We also liked that there is fast, reliable wifi so we can continue checking or working online as needed. The amenities at the resort were clean and well-kept. I think aesthetic-wise, it could do more with additional decorations or vibrant colors. Again, that the refilling of water in the pool takes time is also something to consider, but I believe the owners are transparent about this to their guests. The pool likely won’t be filled yet when you arrive, so feel free to enjoy other resort amenities when you do. When it comes to the location, the resort is located in a private subdivision surrounded by farmlands, making it good for relaxation. There are no nearby commercial establishments, although there is an Alfamart a short drive away. Make sure to bring everything you need before you check-in to avoid any hassles! For those looking for a peaceful retreat for a casual outing or celebration, this hidden gem in Bay, Laguna, is worth checking out. Book your stay at Happy Farm Villas Happy Farm Villas is located in Jubileeville Subdivision in Bay, Laguna. It’s about 1 hour 15 min coming from Metro Manila. You can book your stay at Happy Farm Villas via their website or Facebook. Here are amenities: The resort’s capacity is 20 people (maximum). The resort offers packages depending on how many you are in the group, so make sure to check out their website. Another similar resort that we recommend is Anton’s Loft Designer Resort in Pansol. Fun and Tasty: 5 Steps to Teach Kids How to Cook - Tara Lets Anywhere

Learning how to cook is one of the most important life skills that you can teach your child. And children as young as 3 years old can start with easy cooking skills! Knowing how to cook can help enrich their lives in multiple ways, helping them become independent, confident, and healthy. Not to mention that it’s also a great opportunity to create family bonds by spending quality time together! Whether your little one dreams of becoming the next top chef or simply wants to help out with getting meals ready, getting them involved early on can foster confidence and a love for food. Not every parent teaches their children culinary skills, so if you’re lost on where to start, we’re here to help! Here’s a guide on teaching kids how to cook, complete with tips, tricks, and a sprinkle of culinary games. Contents1. Safety first2. Start with simple recipes3. Get creative in the kitchen4. Teach them the how’s and why’s5. Introduce culinary games 1. Safety first One of the first things you should do when teaching your kids how to cook is to lay down the kitchen rules. Explain the importance of safety, such as keeping hands clean, handling sharp tools carefully, and being cautious around hot surfaces. For younger kids, start by teaching them simple tasks like mixing, washing fruits and veggies, or measuring ingredients. As they grow older, they can graduate to more advanced tasks, like peeling, chopping, or using the stove under supervision. Tip: Use kid-friendly tools! It’s scary to hand your child a sharp chef’s knife, but it is actually safer than a dull knife because the latter can catch and drag. Look for sharp knives designed to fit a kid’s hands for better grip and start them with knife work on soft items such as strawberries. You may also want to get smaller bowls and colorful measuring cups for the kitchen to make the experience more visually engaging. 2. Start with simple recipes Begin with recipes that have just a few ingredients and straightforward steps. Simple dishes help kids feel successful without overwhelming them. Think of things like scrambled eggs or omelets, peanut butter sandwiches, no-bake cookies, and pasta with simple sauces. Generally, breakfast dishes are good recipes for kids too. These beginner-friendly dishes introduce basic kitchen skills like stirring, mixing, and measuring, without requiring advanced techniques. Like adults, children have their own food preferences. So you can also start with dishes that your child likes. Grilled cheese, spaghetti with meatballs, or fried rice are just a few examples of what you can make. To explore more recipes, head to a local library and let your child pick a cookbook with recipes that they are interested in. If you’re looking for recommendations, the Sesame Street cookbooks are perfect for young ones. On Cooking: a Textbook of Culinary Fundamentals and Jamie’s Ministry of Food cookbooks are also good options, offering easy-to-follow recipes for the family. 3. Get creative in the kitchen When you’re teaching your kids how to cook, it’s best to allow them to make decisions now and then. Take a box of cookies and let them stir in chocolates or sprinkles. Let them help in decorating cupcakes, arranging toppings on a homemade pizza, or creating colorful fruit salads. You can also make it a game, like a “build your own sandwich” station or a “rainbow smoothie” challenge using different fruits. 4. Teach them the how’s and why’s Cooking is not just about following recipes—it’s also science in action. As you cook together, talk about why the dough rises when you add yeast, how eggs help hold ingredients together, or why certain foods change color when heated. It’s also fun to learn about concepts such as Maillard reaction (browning of meat) and how it adds flavor to ingredients! This will help build a fundamental understanding of food, which will help them in more advanced cooking later on. It also promotes healthier choices. For example, in terms of how cooking methods affect nutrients, they’ll learn that steaming vegetables rather than boiling retains vitamins better. 5. Introduce culinary games Introducing games is an excellent way to familiarize kids with cooking while keeping them engaged. Some ideas include: You can also check out online culinary games for kids, which can help them get interested and learn about cooking in a fun way. CulinarySchools.org features games such as Julia’s Food Truck and Sushi Bar where you have to prep specific dishes and serve them to customers. Teaching kids how to cook can be fun, creative, and interactive. For parents, the important thing to remember is be patient and let them try on their own. Offer them praise and encouragement to boost their confidence when they are doing something right. Don’t forget to taste and enjoy the fruits of their labor together—it’s the best reward! Teaching kids how to cook depends on their age and current kitchen skills. These steps are generalized toward kids who are yet to be introduced into cooking. As 7-Eleven marks its 40th year in the Philippines, the brand is celebrating more than just a milestone filled with exciting promos and new product releases. In the launch of its first-ever video story, Laging Kasama, 7-Eleven pays tribute to its four decades in the industry, showcasing why it remains the Philippines’ number one convenience store. Since 1984, 7-Eleven has been an integral part of the daily lives of the community.  With nearly 4,000 stores nationwide, it has become a key presence in ordinary stories—a comforting hangout spot for friends, a life-saver for last-minute needs, or a convenient meal stop for families to connect. 7-Eleven has earned its place as the trusted neighbor for millions of Filipinos.  This unique bond between the brand and its community is perfectly captured in Laging Kasama. The story, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Director Victor Villanueva (known for the indie hit Patay na si Hesus) beautifully explores themes of family and love. The film introduces us to Tatay Albert and his son, Raymart, whose relationship has been both challenged and strengthened, with 7-Eleven playing a vital role as their paboritong kapitbahay. What used to be their “dating gawi” bondings at 7-Eleven, became time spent making ends meet and growing up. As the duo navigate their way through life, 7-Eleven remains constant in their lives, there for them in moments of joy and sadness as their trusted neighbor.  People from all walks of life, like Raymart and Tatay Albert, will find pieces of themselves in the video. Viewers are sure to be emotionally drawn into the narrative, which tenderly captures the mundane yet meaningful moments of real-life relationships, inspired by the countless stories that have unfolded within 7-Eleven stores and beyond.   `The video is a testament to 7-Eleven’s legacy of serving the community for the past 40 years—understanding every need and being a dependable presence for every customer. FinalPress: A Portable French Press for Avid Coffee Lovers - Tara Lets Anywhere

If you’re reading this, I am going to assume that you’re an avid coffee lover. Like you, I enjoy having a rich full-bodied cup of coffee especially in the morning as it helps me feel awake to start the day. When it comes to brewing coffee, the French press is a favorite method for many. Among the myriad options available nowadays, the FinalPress French Press is one that you should consider buying. ContentsWhat is the FinalPress French PressFinalPress featuresHow to use the FinalPress French PressFinalPress ReviewBuy a FinalPress French Press What is the FinalPress French Press The FinalPress French Press is a portable French press perfect for single personal use, such as in office, trips, and even camping. To use it, you only need to stir for 10 seconds and then press the plunger to release more coffee flavor. Super easy, right? A fun trivia about the FinalPress French Press: it started as a $1.5M Kickstarter project, with the aim to make coffee and tea anywhere with a patented plunger mechanism. So far, it is considered the most successful coffee campaign ever. FinalPress features A package of a FinalPress French Press includes the following: The FinalPress uses a 3-in-1 patent technology for making coffee, tea, and cold brew. It is pocket sized and lightweight and made of 100% stainless steel. It is eco-friendly as it doesn’t use coffee filters, capsules, or even coffee/tea bags. The package also comes with a leaflet for instructions. How to use the FinalPress French Press Here’s a detailed guide on how to use the FinalPress French Press. For a cold brew, add room temperature water to the jar, tighten the lid through FinalPress and refrigerate overnight. Sitr and press the plunger before drinking. FinalPress Review I personally like the FinalPress French Press. First of all, I think it looks really cool — a shiny, new gadget to add to the kitchen. Second, it’s a great item for making a decent cup of coffee. It is small and portable, so you can take it with you to the office or even during trips, unlike other bulky coffee makers. The package also comes with cover for the filter to keep it clean while not in use. Third, it’s easy to clean. Just rinse the filter in the sink. Moreover, compared to using coffee or tea bags, there are no wastes left so it’s ideal for those conscious about zero-waste efforts. In terms of quality, it makes a fair cup of coffee. I read reviews of the FinalPress and it is often compared to similar coffee making products. One of the common sentiments is that the resulting brew isn’t as strong. For me and my boyfriend who have tried it together, it was fine (Disclaimer: I like medium strength in flavor). In my opinion, the flavor is good as long as you take the time to swirl and plunge. If you’re someone who simply wants a portable French press that you can take anywhere for a decent cup of coffee, this will do the trick. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a strong cup of coffee and/or drinks more than a cup a day, then a regular French press might be better for you. Overall, the FinalPress French press is a portable travel piece worth giving a try, especially if you’re a coffee enthusiast. It also makes for a great gift to office mates, family, or friends who love good-quality coffee or tea. Buy a FinalPress French Press The regular cost of one FinalPress French press is $54 (or P2300). It comes with free shipping worldwide. Buy a FinalPress French Press with free shipping here. An Active Guide to Asia - Tara Lets Anywhere

As the largest and most populated continent on the planet, it’s no surprise that Asia can cater to all types of travel. And with diverse landscapes, wildlife, and amenities, it’s no novice to an active adventure backdrop. As more and more travelers go abroad in search of adrenaline-fueled activities in destinations, the wealth of Asian destinations are becoming more and more equipped.  When it comes to planning your own active trip, the amount on offer in Asia can be daunting, so let this guide take the pressure of planning off you. From the best places to see and stay in, to the best time of year to go, we’ve whittled down the best bits when it comes to active travel in Asia.  ContentsBest time to visitThings to see on an active trip to AsiaThings to do on an active trip to AsiaWhere to stayWhat to pack Best time to visit Due to the sheer size of the landscape, the Asian climate differs dramatically across different regions. As most adventure travel utilizes the outdoors, it’s the most vital to check the weather patterns of the specific district you’re heading to.  In the popular countries spanning across Southeast Asia, November to February sees lower humidity and cooler temperatures than in peak summer months. This can make the most challenging hikes and explorations in busy areas more comfortable. The countryside landscape of Northern Thailand, for instance, is at its best quality and the still clear skies make for views as pristine as summer.  Many regions across the continent experience distinct wet and dry seasons. If it’s a legendary trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal you’re heading on, the dry season of October to March brings more stable conditions and temperatures in the often alpine landscapes. Things to see on an active trip to Asia Within any Asian landscape, be prepared to immerse all the senses and discover new cultures and brand new ways to live compared to the Western world. Outdoor adventure exposes travelers to the wonder of the natural world from the sea’s surface directly to above and below.  For coastal lovers, consider a diving tour and learn about the importance of marine life for various regions. Head to the premier diving location of the Raja Ampat archipelago in Indonesia, or to Batangas in the Philippines, which occupies Verde Island Passage, the most biodiverse area in the world. Dive with experts and be wowed by the kaleidoscope of color thanks to the array of corals. The Maldives is equally said to host incredible diving spots that are abundant with corals.  The Asian continent also comes with an abundance of wildlife on land. Through multi centre holidays in Asia, explore the distinct species of various countries and learn about the importance of preservation across some of the most delicate ecosystems.  National parks across India and Nepal in particular are the most dedicated to preserving the lives of endangered species like tigers, elephants and rhinos. See the animals in their natural habitat with the aid of an expert to ensure you’re also partaking in eco-tourism to help protect their homes.   Things to do on an active trip to Asia As already established, there is so much to see and do across Asia for active lovers. On and at sea, take on both world-renowned and lesser-known adventures led by local experts. Combine active travel with cultural exploration with the array of tours on offer. Cycle through Cambodia’s incredible Angkor Archaeological Park to get close to ancient temples on two wheels. With numerous dedicated footpaths for tourists to easily get around, there are various routes to take for cyclists from a variety of experience levels. Head on safari in Sri Lanka for the most thrilling and ornate way to see some of the most rare wildlife species on earth. Keep your eyes peeled for leopards and elephants, as well as a wealth of bird species overhead. Embrace the youthful activity of white-water rafting in Bali. The most iconic Indonesian island is known for this activity amid the waters that run throughout the jungle landscape. Navigate rapid waters in the Ayung River and learn how locals utilise this means of transport for everyday life.  Where to stay Whether it’s by the sea, the snow, or in the middle of nowhere, there are plenty of options to explore when it comes to accommodation for an active Asian trip. Whether you want a classy five-star luxury stay with a private pool in Thailand or a secluded camping spot riverside in Vietnam, there is something for everyone to embrace.  Japan is even home to incredible ski resorts for snow junkies to fall in love with. The adrenaline of a ski holiday means days outside descending down some of the world’s softest snow. With the season typically running from late November to early May, there is a long time to enjoy. Stay in incredible resorts like Tomamu and enjoy the ease of having every detail sorted with SNO all in ski holidays.  What to pack Like with any travel, packing for Asia simply takes organization. For active holidays in particular, it’s important to have all the equipment necessary. Pack for the weather and the terrain, and equally, don’t forget any home comforts that could help make your trip even better. Here are some general essentials to remember:  Be sure to save some suitcase space for all the locally made crafts and souvenirs you’re bound to want to bring home as a memento from your adventures!  Asia is a paradise backdrop for active travel. Escape to some of the most unique environments on Earth and embrace the endorphins of exercise while away. Combine exercise and travel for the most incredible journey through the landscape. Crown Hotel Palawan: Luxurious Stay in Puerto Princesa City - Tara Lets Anywhere

Whether you’re in Puerto Princesa for a layover or a short vacation to see the city and surrounding beaches, you’ll need a nice hotel resort to enjoy your time. The Crown Hotel Palawan is one of the best hotels in Puerto Princesa City, especially for families and couples who want somewhere quiet and luxurious. It is located about 30 minutes from Puerto Princesa Airport — it is a bit far from the city proper, but in return you get to enjoy a peaceful vacation and also a short ride to Honda Bay for island hopping. I stayed here for 2 nights on a media invitation for the opening of SotoGrande Palawan, its sister hotel. Between the two, I actually prefer the Crown Hotel Palawan since it has a more luxurious feel and more spacious rooms. ContentsThe RoomHotel AmenitiesThings to DoOverallBook your stay at Crown Hotel Palawan The Room Crown Hotel Palawan features a total of 82 rooms and suites that are well appointed with contemporary furnishings and essential amenities. I stayed in a Deluxe Room, which features two double beds, a writing desk and chair, flat-screen TV, mini refrigerator, safety deposit box, a bathroom with tub, and a veranda. As you can probably guess, my favorite part about this room is the hot tub! The tub is higher than normal, but there are holds that can assist you in getting safely in and out. It also fills fairly fast, which is perfect when you’ve just gotten back from a day of touring in Puerto Princesa and wants a hot bath to relax. I also like the room view, one of the pools. For the two nights I spent there, I didn’t have any issue. Everything was well and the WIFI works inside the room. The internet is often an issue when I’m staying with hotels, so I’m glad that the connection here was stable. Hotel Amenities Crown Hotel Palawan has four swimming pools and a pool bar, as well as a jacuzzi (nonfunctional during our stay). I didn’t really have enough time to try out the pool, but we had dinner here outside and the ambiance was nice. Speaking of food, the hotel has a small in-house restaurant that serves plated breakfast and ala carte Palaweno dishes. Because we were in a group, the breakfast was served family-style, and so I am unfamiliar with their typical breakfast plate. The restaurant shares almost the same menu as SotoGrande Palawan. You can order Filipino favorites like sinigang, seafood cuisine such as Sweet and Sour Maya-Maya, Grilled Squid, and Garlic Butter Shrimp, and other items such as pizza. In general, the food here is decent. As you’re staying in Palawan, I recommend getting the seafood dishes. As there are no other close restaurants to the hotel, it’s a good idea to plan your dining. If you want to dine out, the closest one would be Viet Ville, about 10 minutes on foot. The city proper is 10-20 minutes away depending on where you want to go, and you’ll need to wait for a tricycle to pass by, which may take a while, or just pay for the hotel van. There are also limited options when it comes to online delivery. Things to Do Similar to SotoGrande Palawan, the Crown Hotel Palawan is a short drive to Honda Bay, where you can go island hopping on 3-4 islands depending on which tour you want to experience. The hotel can also help you arrange tours to the Puerto Princesa Undeground River (travel time 1.5 hours) and the city (10-20 minutes). The easiest option to tour the city is to book through the hotel. They also facilitate transport to El Nido, about 4-5 hours away. Although it is far from the city proper, the hotel tour services make it a decent base for exploring the area. Overall I enjoyed our stay at Crown Hotel Palawan. Normally it wouldn’t be my first choice if staying in Puerto Princesa since I like to be walking distance to everything, but it’s a nice option if you’re looking for a place that’s modern, comfortable, and quiet to spend a lot of time in. Honda Bay island hopping via SotoGrande Palawan - Tara Lets Anywhere

Puerto Princesa City is a pleasant layover before heading to other destinations in Palawan. While you’re here, one of the top tourist attractions to visit is the Honda Bay islands. It is my second time here in Honda Bay, which I’ve visited prior to the pandemic. This year, I went on a Honda Bay tour c/o SotoGrande Palawan, the newest hotel resort in Puerto Princesa City. SotoGrande Palawan is a good base for your island hopping tour since it is only 1 km away from Honda Bay wharf and the hotel can also offer you their tour services so you can enjoy the activity hassle-free. Alternately, you can also head to the wharf on your own and charter a boat. ContentsExploring Honda Bay islandsStarfish IslandLuli IslandCowrie IslandOverallBook your stay at SotoGrande PalawanWhat to read next: Exploring Honda Bay islands I was part of the media staying at SotoGrande Palawan for their grand opening this August 2023. After a filling breakfast at the hotel, we hopped on the van for a short ride to the wharf. From there, we visited the three islands in Honda Bay: Starfish Island, Luli Island, and Cowrie Island. Starfish Island Our first stop is Starfish Island. As its name suggests, Starfish Island is known for its abundance of starfish that dot the sandy seabed. The shallow waters also make it a good spot for swimming and wading. There were cottages for rest and picnicking and a market stall that sells fresh seafood, including different kinds of fish, mollusks, and even sea urchins. We didn’t get to see starfishes – according to the locals, they have moved to deeper parts of the sea. We relaxed and took pictures at the island before heading to our next destination. Luli Island Luli Island, short for “lulubog, lilitaw,” is a sandbar that disappears during high tide and reappears during low tide. The island has seen developments since the last time I visited – there are now stilt cottages and hammocks set over the water, a perfect spot for your social media feed. Aside from taking pictures of the sandbar, you can also snorkel here to see fishes and even taklobo (“giant clams”). You can fish feed if you’ve bring bread or other food. My companions took to the sea to see the marine animals, while I stayed in one of the cottages to just soak up the setting (and also since it was raining). In my previous visit, I was not impressed with Luli Island and so to see it developed to offer more amenities was a nice surprise indeed. Cowrie Island Cowrie Island is one of the most developed and popular islands in Honda Bay, offering various amenities such as cottages, a restaurant that sells seafood and fresh fruits shakes, and watersports such as kayaking. It’s also a family-friendly spot, since the beach starts shallow, making it ideal for swimming with kids. This is typically where most tourists spend the most time at. We stayed here the longest to enjoy a delicious boodle-style lunch with barbecue and various seafood, as well as fresh fruit shakes. Then we had a leisurely swim in the beach front. Overall We had an enjoyable tour of the Honda Bay islands. I expected huge crowds since it was a long weekend, but there were actually fewer people possible due to the fact that it was already the ber-months. Despite the gloomy weather at the time, we had a nice time exploring the islands, taking pictures, and going for a swim. The tour service provided by SotoGrande Palawan Hotel was also top-notch. It was easy, hassle-free, and convenient — we only had to bring ourselves to enjoy Honda Bay. Book your stay at SotoGrande Palawan You can book your stay at SotoGrande Palawan, which is located in close proximity (1 kilometer) away from Honda Bay wharf. Book discounted rooms at SotoGrande Palawan here. The hotel can also arrange a packaged tour to Honda Bay for you, which includes transport, boat tour, and lunch. Alternatively, you can also arrange the tour yourself by heading to the wharf and registering for the tour that you like best. Food and drinks can be brought at the islands, with meals available at both Starfish Island and Cowrie Island. Here are tips when visiting Honda Bay: Honda Bay island hopping is a great way to experience the natural beauty of Puerto Princesa. Whether you’re sunbathing on a sandbar, sunbathing on a sandbar, or enjoying a picnic filled with seafood and local Palawan delicacies, Honda Bay is sure to leave you with fun memories. Agbalala Falls: A Refreshing Escape in Abra de Ilog (Occidental Mindoro) - Tara Lets Anywhere

Do you love chasing waterfalls? I do, too! One of my recent discoveries as of late is Agbalala Falls, located in the quiet municipality of Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro. What makes Agbalala Falls worth visiting? Agbalala Falls is a stunning natural wonder with a majestic height of 115 feet. It features a cool, refreshing basin that goes up to 11 feet deep. Unlike other waterfalls, there is minimal trekking involved so it is easy to visit and child-friendly even! This waterfall is one of the four waterfalls found in Barangay Wawa, the other three being Agbalala Lovers Falls, Apyas Falls, and Bagolayag Falls. It is also located near the multi-tiered Papali Falls, also found in Abra de Ilog. ContentsOur visit to Agbalala FallsTravel Guide to Agbalala FallsHow to get to Agbalala FallsWhat to expect at the Agbalala FallsAgbalala Falls ratesTravel Tips to Agbalala FallsOther nearby attractionsWhere to stay Our visit to Agbalala Falls I visited here with my family while staying at Jan’s Beach Resort in Abra de Ilog. From our resort in Barangay Udalo, it took us about 1.5 hours of travel via multicab to reach Agbalala Falls in Sitio Apias, Barangay Wawa. From the parking lot, we passed by a beach and then registered at the reception area, which looks like a hobbit house. Outside are picnic tables where families and other visitors can rest and eat, as bringing food in the waterfall is not allowed. There is even a cottage overlooking the beach. From there, it was only a 2-minute trek to reach Agbalala Falls. I love chasing waterfalls but usually dread the trek, so this is a huge plus point for me. I also liked that even though this tourist spot is developed, the main waterfall area remains untouched. Oh and alas — we found the majestic Agbalala Falls. What a beauty! We were told that the water from the falls comes from spring water up in the mountains. We were the only ones there. I was expecting at least a small crowd since it was a Saturday on a long weekend, but also, it being empty makes sense since Abra de Ilog is your quintessential probinsiya and is off-the-beaten path. We wasted no time to take pictures and dip in the cool, refreshing basin. If you’re bringing kids, they can swim at the edge of the waterfall since it is shallow and there is also a buoy available. What did I say – child-friendly! There is also a spot that we call a mini-jacuzzi, where you can lay down and feel the cool stream flowing from the basin. On the left side of the waterfall is a steep incline that you can trek, leading to another small basin and, further, to a few Mangyan houses. After about 2 hours, upon which two other groups of visitors came and went, we left the waterfall area. We stayed next at the beach side, since Hali wanted to swim and snorkel at the marine sanctuary just in front. There is interesting home reef here, although it was shallow and the waves were a bit strong due to the weather. If you’re a good swimmer, this is a good activity to do after swimming in Agbalala Falls. Overall, we had a fantastic time at Agbalala Falls. I would love to come back here the next time we’re in Abra de Ilog. 🙂 Travel Guide to Agbalala Falls Agbalala Falls is one of the best tourist spots in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. This hidden gem offers visitors a refreshing escape into nature, featuring cascading waters surrounded by lush, untouched forest. The waterfall is not only a serene spot for relaxation but also a rewarding destination for adventurers who are stopping by Abra de Ilog. If you’re seeking a peaceful retreat away from the crowds, Agbalala Falls is the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature. Travel Tips to Agbalala Falls Other nearby attractions Aside from Agbalala Falls, you can also visit three other waterfalls in Barangay Wawa (Agbalala Lovers Falls, Apyas Falls, and Bagolayag Falls). It is also near the multi-tiered Papali Falls — however, according to our local guide it is rather difficult to get there. There is little information about these sites, so I suggest getting a local guide or asking your accommodation host about them. Where to stay While Abra de Ilog is a small town with limited accommodation options, you can find a few homestays and basic lodges that offer a comfortable stay. If you’re staying at the port, check out Iraya Hotel. Alternatively, you can opt to stay in nearby towns like Puerto Galera or Sablayan, which offer more lodging choices and then take a day trip to Agbalala Falls. Bauan, Batangas: Home of Jack Fishes - Tara Lets Anywhere

Our lives become meaningful whenever we try something new. This is something that I realized recently — even if we’re doing the same routine every day, we should give space to new experiences, new sights, new smells. It makes life bearable, happy even. One of the local activities that I’ve wanted to experience is seeing the famous school of jack fishes in Bauan, Batangas. This is a popular snorkeling and freediving spot, where you can mingle up-close with the jack fish (commonly known as “talakitok”). In 2020, the jack fishes vanished in the area after the eruption of Taal Volcano. In fact, that year I did beginner scuba in the area c/o Summer Cruise Diving Resort but we didn’t see any sign of them. This year, the locals have happily reported their return. ContentsOur trip to Bauan, BatangasStay at Kantil Dive ResortThe famous jack fishes of BatangasOverallHow to get to Bauan, BatangasBook your stay at Kantil Dive ResortThings to know before you goWhat to read next: Our trip to Bauan, Batangas I went here with my boyfriend Hali for a 3-day trip last June, just after summer and before the habagat season. From our abode in Manila, it took us about 2 hours to reach Bauan, Batangas. Once we reached the parking lot, we waited for the banca that will take us to Kantil Dive Resort. Stay at Kantil Dive Resort Kantil Dive Resort (formerly known as Bunker Dive Resort) is one of the handful of resorts located in the coastline of Barangay Balite, San Luis, where the jack fishes are usually found. If you’re a budget tourist, you are probably more familiar with Binukbok View Point Resort beside it. The reason we booked with them was random — I saw one of their online posts about the jack fishes and thought I wanted to go there, and within the same week we left for Batangas. Kantil Dive Resort is a casual beachfront resort with affordable rooms. Our room was simple, but it was clean and airconditioned. It has no private bathroom, so you need to use the shared toilets and showers. Normally I would mind, but the facilities were regularly kept and cleaned that even I was impressed. The resort also has an open area, which serves as the place for dining and hanging out. Day trippers rent the tables here. We tried to stay here as much as we could, but during our visit it was very hot and humid and there were insects due to the fruiting trees in the back forest. Nonetheless, the view of the beach and sunsets here were nice. The owner of the resort, Ms. Bles, kept us entertain about the going-ons in the resort. She also gave tips on where to find the jack fishes. We booked a package deal that includes room + complete meals instead of the room only, because it was easier and cheaper. The package deal was a bit more expensive, but food-wise the offerings were good and there was unlimited kapeng barako too. Every meal includes rice, meat, and vegetables as well as fruits for dessert. This is Filipino food done right — in fact, we were always looking forward to meal times. That’s really all you need to know about the resort. Now let’s move forward to the reason of our visit — the jack fishes of Batangas. The famous jack fishes of Batangas Jack fish, commonly referred to as “talakitok” in the Philippines, are a popular species among local fishermen and divers in Bauan, a coastal community in Batangas. The waters surrounding Bauan are part of the Verde Island Passage, which is recognized as one of the most biodiverse marine areas in the world. These fishes belong to the Carangidae family and are known for their streamlined bodies, strong swimming abilities, and predatory nature. They are commonly seen in schools, patrolling the reefs and sometimes coming close to shore, especially in areas with strong currents or abundant prey. According to our guide, the reason the jack fishes linger in the area is because of the abundant food supply. We went for a swim for 2 mornings and both times we were able to see the jack fishes! In the first morning, we set out at around 7AM with a young guide. As per Ms. Bles, the best time to see the jack fishes is before the tour boats have arrived at the shore. We snorkeled to see the coral reefs, fishes, and open tunnels underwater. There were also metal hoops underneath for practicing freedivers. Not before long, we spotted the jack fishes! Seeing the big school of jack fishes felt unreal. Hali freedived to get nice underwater shots with the help of our guide, who was holding the action camera. We learned that there’s an art to freediving photography as well. Basically, if you swim straight down, the jack fishes will scatter — so what you need to do is to freedive from a distance and then glide towards the fishes. This way, the water won’t be disturbed and they will tolerate your presence. Even as a non-freediver, I enjoyed the swim immensely. The jack fishes stayed at the shallow parts, which means even I could get close to them! The next morning swim was equally great. There was a moment when I swam close to the jack fishes and they surrounded me. I felt an initial panic and then calm as it dawned on me how special this experience was. Alas our action camera stopped working at this point, so there were no photos of this magical moment. We also tried exploring the waters past lunch hours, but visibility wasn’t as good and there were lots of trash floating around. We couldn’t get a decent photo without a plastic photobombing the frame. I was told that this happens during habagat season, when the currents change direction and drive the litter toward the shorelines. It was saddening but I hope the local government do something about it since it seems to be a recurring problem. Overall We had a really nice time at Bauan, Batangas. If you haven’t seen the jack fishes yet, this is your sign to do so! We also liked the accommodation that we booked — Kantil Dive Resort. 5 Destinations for Incredible Wildlife Adventures Around the World - Tara Lets Anywhere

The rapidly growing segment of global travel, wildlife tourism, is a fascinating opportunity for tourists to experience never-before-seen wildlife that’s so unique to specific parts of the world. For travelers also interested in eco-tourism, the promotion of heading to some of the world’s most naturally phenomenal and best-protected destinations helps boost local economies to continue such essential protection. Whether it’s to get up close with marine life or those on land, wildlife tourism can allow international travelers to see some of the most endangered species in the world.  Here are some of the best destinations, for the most unforgettable wildlife adventure.  Contents1. Tanzania2. Rwanda3. The Galapagos Islands4. Antarctica5. Indonesia 1. Tanzania One of the African continent’s top destinations for wildlife enthusiasts, Tanzania is home to a wealth of rich biodiversity living within some of the best-kept natural landscapes. It’s a paradise for travelers wanting to discover some of the most traditionally represented (across film and media) but hardly seen mammals. Uncover the wonder of Serengeti National Park. Sitting to the north of the island bordering Kenya, the preserved area is home to the big five of lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and rhinoceroses. A phenomenon worth planning around here is what’s known as the “Great Migration,” which is the movement of over one and a half million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle species. This is a circular journey that tends to happen once a year through the park and Kenya’s Maasai Mara, occurring as the animals go in search of water sources and graze for the change of season. It’s a spectacle worth seeing if you get lucky enough!  Part of the larger Serengeti ecosystem is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is not only home to the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera, but it also houses over 25,000 large animals. Including endangered black rhinoceros, tourists can get close to more lions and elephants, as well as a variety of bird species. While the generally warm climate of Tanzania makes it a year-round destination, June to October is known for having the best chances of wildlife spotting at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here’s a guide on how to prepare a safari packing list for Africa. 2. Rwanda Often referred to as the “Land of a Thousand Hills” is the small landlocked country of Rwanda, in East Africa. Embrace remarkable wildlife tourism here, including the view of iconic mountain gorillas in their natural habitats. The tropical climate reacts differently to the wealth of altitudes in the country, and there are distinct rainy and dry seasons for travelers to plan trips around.  For nature enthusiasts, there is a wealth of spectacular safaris in Rwanda to uncover some of the most naturally dense environments in the world. Engage in gorilla encounters in the Volcanoes National Park through gorilla trekking with an expert to guide tourists to the wealth of families of the monkey species in their natural habitat. If chimpanzees sound more enticing, the Nyungwe Forest National Park in the southwest is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees and colobus monkeys. Take on the elevated canopy walk across the terrain while seeking out the array of monkeys and capturing panoramic views across the rainforest.  3. The Galapagos Islands Six hundred miles off the mainland of Ecuador sits the remote archipelago of the Galapagos Islands. With unparalleled masses of wildlife finding home in this part of the Pacific, the 21 islands are fast becoming one of the most popular tourist spots for getting closer to marine and land wildlife. The islands’ climate features distinct wet seasons in the calendar year, which is the time when the landscape is the most lush and the weather tends to stay warmer. Many endemic species find home here, meaning they cannot be found anywhere else in the world, hence the rise in tourism interest on the islands.  Uncover Galapagos tortoises, which can weigh over 400 kg and live over 100 years. Their saddleback shells are distinctive to see, and the animals are found across a range of islands within the collection. Go scuba diving and get up close with marine iguanas, which are the only marine lizards in the world capable of foraging in the ocean and are known for their efficient diving skills. See sea lions and look up to the apex predators of Galapagos Hawks. There is so much worth marveling over on the islands. While tourism will continue to be encouraged, there are a wide range of invasive species control efforts and marine conservation. With such a collection of ecosystems within the islands and surrounding waters, it’s vital to keep them protected first and foremost. Before a trip, it’s a good idea to research the best Galapagos Islands to visit and ensure you’re working with the natural world there to keep its delicacy conserved.  4. Antarctica The southernmost continent of Antarctica is a place of extreme conditions intertwined with globally renowned beauty. It’s known as the coldest, windiest, yet driest continent on earth, and a visit there can enable travelers to see a unique perspective of ecosystems that inhabit masses of wildlife. It’s worth considering an Antarctica luxury cruise to get the closest to marine life in their natural habitat — from the world’s largest colonies of penguins like emperors and gentoos to Weddell seals finding hoes on ice and coastal areas. Ensure you can keep warm living in indulgent cabins looking out on the purest wilderness on earth; Antarctica’s unique disposition will make a truly memorable trip for wildlife lovers. 5. Indonesia The archipelago of over 6000 inhabited islands, Indonesia is another of the world’s most diverse countries, with wildlife spanning across lush rainforests, volcanic craters, and vibrant coral reefs below the sea surface. Over 2000 endemic species find home on the islands, and the country has a huge portfolio of protected national park areas to protect against the animals and the impacts of deforestation on their habitats. Head to the world’s largest island of Borneo and see orangutans in their masses, or Komodo Island to see the infamous dragons. The opportunities across the collection of islands are endless, and Indonesia is not to be missed for wildlife wonders! Wildlife tourism both protects the world’s natural resources and gives travellers unforgettable memories. Play a role in protecting some of the more delicate species on the planet and take on a wildlife adventure. Guest AuthorThis article is contributed by an expert guest author.
