Ed “Eddie” Giacomin, a Hall of Fame goalie and New York Rangers legend whose No. 1 jersey was retired by the team in 1989, has died at age 86, the team and the NHL Alumni Association announced on Monday. Giacomin played 539 of his 610 career games with the Rangers, with whom he was a five-time All-Star and a winner of the Vezina Trophy, at the time given to the goalie or goalie tandem whose team allowed the fewest goals in the regular season.
