House of the Dragon is a prequel television series to the popular fantasy drama series Game of Thrones. The series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and will center on the Targaryen dynasty. It is based on the novel Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, and is being developed for HBO by screenwriter Ryan Condal and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik. The series will explore the vibrant history of the Targaryen family and their reign over Westeros. It will feature a large ensemble cast of characters from Westeros and Essos, including House Targaryen, House Baratheon, House Tyrell, House Martell and many others. The series is expected to begin production in early 2021 and is expected to premiere in late 2022.
