News Updates & The Princess’s August Style Through the Years – What Kate Wore

Hello and happy almost-autumn! I hope everyone has been able to enjoy some of the summer season. I have reveled in the time off, but thought it would be good to do an update post. This past weekend, the Prince and Princess of Wales (known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland) attended church with Prince George and Princess Charlotte and other Royal Family members. The family went to services at Crathie Kirk, Balmoral's local parish church in Scotland. Below, you see an honor guard from the Royal Regiment of Scotland welcoming members of the Royal Family at the church last Sunday.  Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'8YtpeSVwS0VJ9QTy3L8NQA',sig:'Fxy_0I_8nJjWMCrpzgrVClmTzx2i2HdVm_Sq5TZKj7c=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2231790044',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })}); The King and Queen.  Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'lorWPIYqRL9F-v5gAuW-ug',sig:'p0-0PPXtq54hbOmTFhfDot08JzdyTAlOE6zUJpkAvsA=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'2230999859',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })}); More from the Aberdeen Press and Journal's story. More recently, the Princess wore the design for a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in January of this year, and again at a February engagement at HMP Styal, a prison and young offender institution for women ages 18 and older. The double-breasted coat showcases a large windowpane check with gathers at the waist, peak lapels, strong shoulders, and the brand's signature pockets. The Princess accessorized with her ''Betty Boop'hat designed by Sylvia Fletcher for Lock & Co. Hatters, shown below on some of the many occasions she has worn the piece.  Some have suggested the Princess had colored her hair blonde, but I think it is just highlights, and the lighting made it look lighter than it actually is. They are shown below as worn on a previous occasion. I expect we will see the Prince and Princess involved in the US state visit to the UK from September 17 to September 19, although we do not yet have details on their participation.  Today, we review the Princess's August style. August is historically a slower month for the Royal Family, and you'll see a mix of styles worn by the Princess through the years. We begin in 2011, when she wore Alexander McQueen separates for a visit to Birmingham with Prince William. The silk georgette blouse featured a stand collar, military-style frogging, and a flared hem. The wool crepe skirt also showcased embossed gold buttons with slits on the front. We saw quite a bit of the Princess in August 2012, as London hosted the Summer Olympic Games. Our first look is the blue Stella McCartney 'Ridley' dress and Smythe blazer worn to Olympic tennis matches at Wimbledon.  The Princess then changed into a more casual look to watch cycling at the Velodrome, including her Stuart Weitzman 'Corkswoon' wedges. The next day, the Princess donned jeans and an Adidas Team GB fleece top for track and field. She changed into a red Zara blazer and polka dot top for a visit to the Aquatic Centre.  As well as a Team GB party.  The Princess chose a Team GB top and jeans for more Olympic viewing that August.  When watching sailing events at Weymouth, she chose a Team GB jacket, skinny jeans, and Adidas sneakers.  The Princess wore a denim skirt, dating back to at least 2007 (most likely a Zara design), when watching Team GB's women's hockey team compete, paired with a knit Team GB top. At the closing ceremony for the games, the Princess repeated a Reiss dress. Later that month, the Princess brought back a 2006 coat by Danish Label DAY Birger et Mikkelsen for the London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony. She accessorized with her Wilbur and Gussie clutch and LK Bennett Sledge pumps. In August 2013, we were treated to the first family photo of the Prince and Princess with their new baby, Prince George. The image was shot by Michael Middleton in the gardens at Carole and Michael Middleton's Bucklebury estate. The Princess wore the 'Knot-Front Dress' by Séraphine Maternity. Later that month, the Princess joined Princess William to act as official starter for an ultramarathon on Anglesey, sporting a Ralph Lauren Blazer, a Zara top, and Topshop Jeans. August 2014 brought 100th anniversary commemorations of the First World War. The Prince and Princess joined heads of state and other dignitaries in Liège, Belgium, for events marking the occasion. Below you see the royals with French President Francois Hollande. The Princess chose a dress by Alexander McQueen, with a hat by Jane Taylor, and her LK Bennett Sledge pumps. Later that month, the Prince and Princess, along with Prince Harry, viewed the spectacular Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red art installation at the Tower of London, part of the World War I Centenary observances. The Princess wore LK Bennett's 'Detroit' dress for the engagement, Jimmy Choo's 'Georgia' heels, and she carried her Stuart Weitzman clutch. The Princess did not have any public engagements in August 2015. In August 2016, she took part in a video wishing Team GB good luck at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, wearing one of her Henri Lloyd tops.  We also saw the Princess that month for a day of engagements with Prince William in Luton, Bedfordshire, about thirty minutes northwest of London. The Princess wore a fan favorite, the 'Lasa Poppies' dress from LK Bennett. The dress was first seen when the couple visited an Australian Air Force base in 2014. In 2016, the Princess paired it with LK Bennett's Fern pumps ($350) and the brand's 'Nina' clutch. The couple wrapped up August 2016 with an engagement under the Heads Together umbrella. The Princess sported a vibrant red LK Bennett dress, the 'Eugenia' style, along with her LK Bennett 'Nina' clutch and Gianvito Rossi praline pumps ($795). Early in August 2017, the Princess and other senior royals attended a commemoration marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele in Ypres, Belgium. She wore Catherine Walker's 'Melrose' coatdress, an updated hat by Jane Taylor, Gianvito Rossi's 'Signature' heels, a brooch on loan from the Queen, and the Collingwood Pearl and Diamond Earrings. Later that month, the Princess was seen with other members of the royal family as they drove to church services at Balmoral. She wore her 'Celeste' coat by Hobbs, along with what appeared to be the LK Bennett Addison dress, and the 'Tiffany' Drop-Brim Felted Hat by Lock & Company. At the end of the month, the Princess joined Prince William and Prince Harry to remember the late Diana, Princess of Wales, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of her death, wearing a silk dress by Prada. They visited the White Garden, a memorial planted with white foliage and flowers, and met with representatives of charities championed by the Princess.  In August 2018, the Prince and Princess accompanied the Queen to church services at Crathie Kirk. The Princess was in a bespoke Catherine Walker design, with collar, cuffs, and buttons trimmed in black. She repeated a Lock and Company hat and wore the Queen's Bahrain Pearl and Diamond Drop earrings. We saw the Princess in technical sailing gear in August 2019, when she took part in the King's Cup regatta in Cowes, Isle of Wight. It looked like crews were outfitted in special King's Cup designs by Gill Marine, featuring the brand's SailGP Polo and Team Softshell Jacket. She wore her Kiki McDonough Lauren earrings (£2,750) and New Balance trainers. Later that month, the Prince and Princess attended church with the Queen.  It appeared that the Princess wore a navy Herringbone Wool Trench Coat by Guinea London, her Michael Kors Peacock Pattern Dress, a Lock and Co. hat, seen before on multiple occasions, and her Asprey Oak Leaf Earrings. In early August 2020, the Princess visited Baby Basics as she helped launch an initiative supporting baby banks.  She wore the Flippy Wriggle Dress ($3800) in silk crepe by Suzannah London that was first seen at Wimbledon in 2019, accessorizing with the Tabitha Simmons 'Dela' pumps in cream and grey (not seen since the 2011 North American Tour), with earrings by All the Falling Stars and her Daniella Draper Trio Diamond Midnight Moon Necklace ($1800). Just a few days later, we saw the Princess again when she and Prince William visited South Wales for several engagements. The Princess brought back her Emilia Wickstead 'Aurora' dress, first seen in September 2019, her Castañer Carina wedge espadrilles, and she carried her Amberley Small Clutch by Mulberry. Her earrings were the 'Alia' style ($125) by Welsh brand Spells of Love.   In mid-August, the Princess made a virtual visit to Clouds House, an Action on Addiction treatment center. She wore what appeared to be the Hobbs London Loreley Dress from the 2012 spring/summer collection and Daniella Draper hoop earrings. At the end of the month, the Princess participated in a video conference for the 'Hold Still' project, done in tandem with the National Portrait Gallery, one of her patronages.  She wore a dress from Zara's Join Life collection, made using technology and raw materials that help us to reduce the environmental impact of our products. She also wore her Twisted Circle Drop Earrings by UK retailer Accessorize. The Princess did not have any public engagements in August 2021. In August 2022, the Prince and Princess took Princess Charlotte to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.  The Princess of Wales repeated the white Alexander McQueen separates first noted during the Caribbean Tour in March. She repeated her Camilla Elphick 'Alicia' slingback sandals, as well as her Mappin and Webb 'Empress' earrings and necklace.  In August 2023, the Prince and Princess joined other members of the royal family at the Sunday Crathie Kirk church service.  William and Kate among senior royals enjoying first summer break at Balmoral since Queen's death pic.twitter.com/8R6UxRWUby — OK! Magazine (@OK_Magazine) August 27, 2023 It looked like the Princess wore the Suffolk Fedora ($170) by Hicks and Brown and the Holland Cooper Full-Length Marlborough Trench Coat ($1439). The double-breasted design is crafted in the UK from 100% wool, featuring a fitted silhouette. Design elements include a self-belt, deep back yoke, shoulder epaulets, adjustable buckles at the wrists, front pockets with piped trim, and the shiny hardware that is a Holland Cooper signature design element. The Princess appeared to wear the same ensemble when attending church at Crathie Kirk in August 2024.  King Charles and Kate Middleton publicly seen together for the first time since Trooping the Colour as they attend Sunday service at Crathie Kirk with family - after both have battled cancer diagnoses https://t.co/8JqBhpDnMu pic.twitter.com/fdWlklNkKV — Daily Mail (@DailyMail) August 25, 2024 In August 2024, the Princess appeared in a video with Prince William, congratulating Team GB on their showing at the Paris Olympic Games. She wore her 'Tori' striped tee from Ralph Lauren's 2012 Blue Label collection. This year, we saw the Princess in photos released on August 6th, which were taken in June. They were part of the launch of a series of animated videos to help parents and caregivers with early childhood education. The Princess chose separates by past-season styles by Veronica Beard, the Kona Dickey Jacket, and Marbeau Trouser, paired with an ivory top and her Cartier Trinity Earrings. May those marking the Labor Day holiday in the US enjoy the extended weekend. I'll see you in September!
