1. Rolls-Royce Unveils the Biggest, Most Powerful Jet Engine in History Rolls-Royce recently unveiled the biggest, most powerful jet engine in history. The UltraFan, as it’s called, is expected to power the next generation of commercial aircraft and could help reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25 percent. The engine has a fan diameter of 131 inches, which is almost as wide as a 787 Dreamliner’s cabin, and can generate up to 92,000 pounds of thrust. The UltraFan is also the first engine to use an advanced, ultra-efficient and lightweight composite fan system. Rolls-Royce is currently working on testing the engine and plans to have it ready for commercial use by 2025. 2.
