Žalgiris Kaunas is a professional basketball team based in Kaunas, Lithuania. The team plays in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) and the EuroLeague. The team is one of the most successful in the LKL and has won the championship a record 20 times. The team also won the EuroLeague in 1999, becoming the first and only team from Lithuania to do so. Žalgiris also holds the record for most consecutive Lithuanian championships, having won 12 in a row from 1997 to 2008. The team has been led by legendary coach and player Sarunas Marciulionis for much of its history, and has featured a number of prominent Lithuanian players, such as Arvydas Sabonis, Darius Songaila, Šarūnas Jasikevičius, and Jonas Valančiūnas. Žalgiris is one of the most popular sports clubs in Lithuania, with a large and passionate fan base. The team's home games are played at the Zalgirio Arena in Kaunas, which has a capacity of 15,000.
