I love travelling but there is one thing that I will always miss when I go away. I can do without a cup of tea or even a decent bacon sandwich (although they are always nice to have when home). It's my bed that I cannot wait to sink into. There's nothing quite like being in your own bed, is there? It certainly makes it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. I have always been a light sleeper, and annoyingly, I can wake up to any noise and often find myself wide awake at all hours of the morning.
Hugging Morocco's breezy Atlantic coast, the coastal town of Essaouira is a wonderfully laidback alternative to Marrakech. On our summer holiday here, we stayed for 12 days. But we could have easily stayed longer. What we loved about Essaouira is that you can do as little or as much as you want. If you're looking for sun, sea and relaxation with a dash of great cuisine and welcoming people, then you're in for a treat. If you're not one for lying on the beach or by a pool, there are so many things to do in Essaouira. Beach walks, shopping
Fantastic beaches aren’t the only reason to holiday on the Costa Brava. There are some beautiful towns and villages to explore too. Many have medieval origins, so you can expect plenty in the way of narrow cobbled streets, old stone buildings and shady squares. On our family holiday to the Costa Brava, we were keen to explore, but mindful that our two-year-old and four-year-old have fairly low boredom thresholds. Luckily, all the places listed here are fairly compact, so you can see the highlights – and stop for lunch/coffee/ice cream – in a morning, then skip off to the coast
Having spent two weeks in Morrocco’s coastal town of Essaouira on a family holiday, I would wholeheartedly say: ‘Yes!’, Essaouira really is worth visiting. When I first heard about sun-soaked Essaouira’s laid-back vibe, how the locals are welcoming and friendly, that I would devour delicious food and choose from so many different cuisines, as well as enjoy vast swathes of coastlines I didn’t believe it. My last foray in Marrakesh didn’t leave a lasting impression. Let’s just say I wouldn’t choose to go back there but my trepidation about returning to Morocco was unfounded. Is Essaouira worth visiting? In Essaouira,
Tenerife is a great choice for a winter sun destination but it's pretty popular all year round. Understandably so, with a wide range of different resorts, first-class hotels, wonderful beaches, plenty of attractions and epic landscapes. There is also a vast selection of things to do in Tenerife with kids, which makes it a fantastic half-term destination. On our first trip to Tenerife as a family, we stayed in the southern resort of Costa Adeje - and from this fantastic base, there is much to explore on the Canary Islands. While there are too many activities and places to visit to
