JC: Evaluation of Lidocaine Patches for Elderly Patients with Rib Fractures: A Feasibility Study
Discover the feasibility of using topical lidocaine patches for pain management in elderly patients with rib fractures. This multicentre, randomised controlled trial evaluated the practicality of recruiting and retaining older patients in emergency settings. Results indicate high adherence to the intervention and significant findings on pain and pulmonary complications. However, challenges in data collection for pain and frailty-specific outcomes were noted. The study highlights the need for a larger, placebo-controlled trial to confirm the clinical benefits of lidocaine patches.
