Miami's culinary world holds its breath as our restaurant scene awaits the verdict from the prestigious and often controversial MICHELIN Guide. Drawing on my experience after accumulating 317 Michelin stars from dining at restaurants worldwide, I take a deep dive into the upcoming April 17th ceremony and offer more than just predictions.
This Miami pop-up, EntreNos, quickly captured the hearts of Miami food enthusiasts with its unwavering commitment to sourcing all things Florida. Chefs Osmel Gonzalez and Evan Burgess stopped in to share their journey.
In a short press release this morning, the MICHELIN Guide announced it will finally begin an expansion this year by including restaurants in Greater Fort Lauderdale (say hellooooo MAASS), The Palm Beaches (perhaps KONRO?), and St. Pete-Clearwater. The more significant, unexpected, and thrilling news is that beginning in 2026, the Guide will become statewide. That's…
Chef Ryan Ratino attended Orlando’s Le Cordon Bleu in 2009. He launched his culinary career as a Junior Sous Chef at Shula’s Steak House (Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin resort) and spent three years working under Todd English at Bluezoo. Life has come full circle. Although he owns D.C.'s One Michelin-starred Bresca and Two Michelin-starred JÔNT. Ratino is finally…
This morning, the James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists for the 2025 awards season. As always, we hope to see our city proudly represented. While the list did not include nearly as many nominations as Miamians collectively hoped, here are the nods that are South Florida-related this year:
Ten new additions to the Miami (6) and Orlando (4) Florida list made headlines this morning as the MICHELIN Guide teased some of the upcoming entries. What does this mean? It’s too soon to tell. Last year, for example, three Miami restaurants from the eight on the teaser list received One Michelin Star. Others landed in the Bib Gourmand category or solely received…
As you know from following this blog, wine plays a significant role in all our food experiences. I am Lawrence, the husband of the force behind The Whet Palette. My part is to (1) not touch the food until Brenda has photographed it, (2) occasionally hold a flash, and (3) pick the vino! These are…
GUEST POST by Lawrence P. This is a list of my favorite Miami-Dade County restaurants for 2024. This is not a list of the county’s best restaurants. I am not The Whet Palette. I don’t have the necessary “street cred” to arrive at such conclusions. Because I love my vino, wine “service/prices/selection/corkage fee” will play a…
For the second consecutive year, The MICHELIN Guide brought culinary cachet to the Big Apple in an exclusive combined ceremony spanning three cities —New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. As a dedicated MICHELIN dining enthusiast, I packed my heaviest coats and happily flew in from Florida to cover the prestigious occasion for The Whet Palette.
The Miami restaurants receiving Palette Awards offer the total package. These are the ones you visit to sit for dinner. Read that again. SIT. FOR. DINNER. The food doesn't have to necessarily fit in the fine dining category, but it MUST be excellent. These 24 locations offer it all—dinner as a leisurely experience and not an afterthought…
The hubs and I discuss our personal experiences from the last 16 (new to us) Miami restaurants we visited. This is OUR opinion on OUR experience dining at each. We chose and paid for every restaurant featured. Receipts? Got 'em! There's much to tell, so this will be a two-part episode.
South Florida Chef Joe Anthony left his home in Delray Beach to pursue his culinary dreams in New York City. Over a decade later, he finally returned home to open Elastika, a modern American restaurant at the stunning Moore Building in the Design District.
Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Chef Diego Oka decided to attend culinary school on a whim. A chance encounter in a supermarket with chef extraordinaire Gastón Acurio sparked the start of an incredible career. With a decade of experience as the Executive Chef at the Mandarin Oriental’s La Mar restaurant, he now embarks on…
Allow me to introduce Jhonatan Cano, a seasoned professional in the culinary world. AKA: @memoriesofagourmand As the Director of Operations for Hive Hospitality (one Michelin-starred Bresca D.C., two Michelin-starred JONT D.C., MAASS Fort Lauderdale, and OMO Orlando), Jhonatan's leadership has set the bar high.
Daniel Figueredo and his wife, Rosa Romero, founded Sanguich de Miami in 2015. Almost ten years later, this three-peat MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand restaurant has developed a winning meticulous formula that keeps us all craving Sanguich
The 2010 South Florida culinary scene has significantly evolved since Cari began her food blog. Through the years, she successfully transitioned her brand's model from restaurant reviews to recipes and giveaways, and turned challenges into opportunities following unsavory experiences with certain eateries. Recently, an unexpected work incident prompted her to leave her healthcare career behind and…

Do you know how many MICHELIN-Starred chefs we have in Miami? The answer might surprise you. The correct total is ZERO. Florida (and the world) has no MICHELIN-Starred chefs because the title does not exist. You've read otherwise in food news outlets and social media, but it's factually incorrect. Why?
A much-respected veteran chef of the Miami culinary scene (Bice at the Victor Hotel, Pelican Cafe, Toscana Divino, and more recently at Le Zoo—to name a few) and mentor to many, Chef Julian Alexander Baker joins me to chat about South Florida's growth and significant changes during his 15 years in Miami.

I've been writing about the MICHELIN Guide's Florida potential and eventual guide since 2014—initially on the blog and now on the podcast. In this episode, I'll be your guide through…
In this episode, I analyze the MICHELIN Guide Florida and its upcoming April 18th awards ceremony in Tampa. Will any Miami restaurant lose its star? Will the MICHELIN Guide rank up any restaurant? Will Miami see any three-starred restaurant this year? Who are the new restaurant additions to the guide? Is 2024 a shakeup year for the MICHELIN…
Nineteen new additions to the Miami (8), Orlando (5), and Tampa (6) lists made headlines this week as the MICHELIN Guide teased some of the upcoming entries. What does this mean?
